Another Davids Bridal Question/Rant

Another Davids Bridal Question/Rant

Does anyone know if you can order dresses from them? I was there last week and I've narrowed it down to 2 that I LOVE.

The only problem is that the 1st one I love had make-up stains all on the inside : the beads were all loose, it had stains on the bottom the stitching was starting to come lose (I guess from people walking around while wearing the dress) and not to mention the stitching on the front of the dress was uneven.

The 2nd one had stains ALL over the bottom, beads were loose, the inside was black and dirty I'm assuming because of having a ton of people try it on and sweating it had cute little sleeves and one of them was hanging on by a thread...literaly...the girl told me not to touch it so I wouldn't rip it off

Now I saw all of this from only giving the dresses a quick overlook...i couldn't imagine what I would have found if I REALLY looked at the dresses.

The bridal attendant kept telling me they don't order dresses if they have them in stock and that both could be 'cleaned up' before my wedding.

I DON'T want a dress that's been 'cleaned up' especially when one dress was $900 and the other was $850. I think it's CRAZY that they won't order a dress for you....if you want me to buy a dress that's been sitting on your rack, tried on by TONS of sweaty, make-up covered people and needs to be 'cleaned up' you should give it to me for a price that reflects the fact that it's NOT new!

Okay sorry rant over Does anyone agree with me?? I feel like I'm the only crazy who feels this way. So has anyone had a dress ordered from davids bridal that wasn't a 'designer' gown?

My wedding is in June and I feel like I'm NEVER going to find a gown

Yes! You order from Davids. You don't buy off the rack unless your wedding is like, next week.

I tried on dresses there and asked the salesgirl if I had to buy the sample I was trying on and she looked at me like I had two heads and wondered aloud if I was eloping. She said they order the dresses and that they take less than 2 months to come in.

ETA: the Davids I went to was in Connecticut. Maybe they're more easygoing there. I've heard that they only get commission if you buy the store sample?? So that's why she was pushing you into it. But you can ABSOLUTELY order a new one. If they keep giving you a hard time at this particular Davids Bridal, go to any other.

I guess my bridal attendant just wanted to make a sale....she even had the manager tell me that they only order oleg cassini.

They're being stupid. And lying to you to boot. Don't give them your business. Go to a different David's. You might have to drive half an hour, but that's worth it for a brand new dress that you really love.

Oh my Gosh!!! hearing this made me MAD!! she was lying to you....they DO order gowns if you ask!! I know this b/c when i went to the one in Westbury by The Source Mall, my mom found her MOB gown and she ORDERED it, not take the one off the rack. She tried that one on of course, but like you say, so many people try on the samples they get dirty!

On a postive note, i think if you order they come in relatively quickly....my moms gown was only 1 month!

I went to the one in Lake Grove...I guess I should take a ride out to the one in Woodbury...It might be worth it!

I had a terrible experience at the one in woodbury. The salespeople were very unprofessional, 2 were having a screaming match in the store when my mom and I walked in, and we had to wait 10 minutes for anyone to help us, even though literally we were the only customers in the store. Then they didn't listen to me-- I had been to a DB before, and tried on tons of dresses, and knew exactly which dress I wanted to try on, and what size I needed. They brought me a different dress in a different size and told me to trust them.
It was very annoying.
I since went to a lot of different dress shops, and I can say that a lot of people go to DB because its affordable, yet there are tons of dresses out there by different designers in that price range.
I ended up buying a Maggie Sottero gown at Lotus Bridal in Brooklyn.
Casablanca, Bonny, and Maggie Sottero all have gowns in the 800-1100 price range, the same as David's Bridal.
I'd say check them out at RK bridal or Lillettes before making a decision. My wedding is in JUly, and I just ordered on December 10th, and it will be here in April.
Don't stress, and good luck.
If you absolutely love the Dress at David's, maybe try ordering online.

I must be in the minority, I actually had a positive experience at Davids in Westbury- although I did go in with low expectations and knew that I wasnt going to get the kind of service I'd get at a regular bridal salon. The woman was helpful and kept pulling dresses off the rack that she thought I'd like. We had questions about alterations, and she even went and got the head seamstress to answer them. And they definitely do order dresses- I ordered mine and got a brand new one, which arrived a WEEK.

wow---that's so shady that they were lying to you like that. i know of PLENTY of girls on this site that have ordered a david's bridal gown---for them to lie straight to your face is just disgusting.

you should call or contact the main headquarters of david's bridal and report this store to them....let them know how they flat out lied to your face!

Wow that's gross. I agree 850-900 does not reflect an off the rack dress.

I'd complain too. Were you able to talk to a manager?

Nope, I oedered dresses from them, I would go back in and tell them that I want to order a new dress, that you don't want a floor sample. Or you will take your business somewhere else.

Unless they changed their policy, they do order dresses.

This was my experience exactly. My dress came in a week too. I don't know anyone who's gotten a dress off the rack there. They even got my sister a new dress when the one that they ordered was too big since she had lost weight while waiting for it! I think it's hit or miss at David's, but for all the crap I've heard about them, I've had a good experience there.

They do order dresses. They ordered mine and there were a couple of them on the rack. I had a great experience at DB also but I live in Illinois so it could be a lot different here. I must say though that I was glad I got the consultant I did because the other ones working that day didn't seem very friendly.

I never heard of that! I can see if your wedding was in 2 weeks but not when it's months or years away. Take me for example. My wedding is in September. I want a New gown..and not some gown off the rack! I think the consultant was trying to make a sale and would say anything!!!

Actually, you are not alone. I went to the one in Queens (Northern BLVD) and I had a great experience. I fell in love with the 2nd gown that I tried on and purchased it. They ordered a new one for me and within weeks I received a call that my dress was in. I really had a great experience there but I do understand that my experience is not everyone else's.

I had a great experience at Davids Bridal in Lake Grove and the sales person told me that they are mostly an off the rack store but if they don't have it then they order it. It took only about 2 weeks for my dress to come in. I would assume if its falling apart that they would order it, maybe you should try using another sales person. I was actually just there the other night buying shoes and they were so nice!! I

I went to the one in Northern Blvd also and never had a problem when I was a BM- my sister also purchased her dress there. Everyone was so helpful. The location that I am dealing with now in CT is awesome. The service, quality, everything has been excellent. I am so sorry to hear that certain locations in LI are like that.
