Another Davids Bridal Question/Rant

Original post by MrsOlszewski

Does anyone know if you can order dresses from them? I was there last week and I've narrowed it down to 2 that I LOVE.

The only problem is that the 1st one I love had make-up stains all on the inside : the beads were all loose, it had stains on the bottom the stitching was starting to come lose (I guess from people walking around while wearing the dress) and not to mention the stitching on the front of the dress was uneven.

The 2nd one had stains ALL over the bottom, beads were loose, the inside was black and dirty I'm assuming because of having a ton of people try it on and sweating it had cute little sleeves and one of them was hanging on by a thread...literaly...the girl told me not to touch it so I wouldn't rip it off

Now I saw all of this from only giving the dresses a quick overlook...i couldn't imagine what I would have found if I REALLY looked at the dresses.

The bridal attendant kept telling me they don't order dresses if they have them in stock and that both could be 'cleaned up' before my wedding.

I DON'T want a dress that's been 'cleaned up' especially when one dress was $900 and the other was $850. I think it's CRAZY that they won't order a dress for you....if you want me to buy a dress that's been sitting on your rack, tried on by TONS of sweaty, make-up covered people and needs to be 'cleaned up' you should give it to me for a price that reflects the fact that it's NOT new!

Okay sorry rant over Does anyone agree with me?? I feel like I'm the only crazy who feels this way. So has anyone had a dress ordered from davids bridal that wasn't a 'designer' gown?

My wedding is in June and I feel like I'm NEVER going to find a gown

why don't you try a small boutique they will give you what you want for a price that you want because they really want your business. They work with you. I went to a small store in bklyn and they worked with me and you will save so much on alterations and you may even be able to get out of paying taxes on it if you go to the right store

I got my dress at David's in Lake Grove. It was a great experience. I dealt with a salesgirl named Amanda. She was very helpful.

I tried on a few different dresses there and each one would have needed to be ordered. I did end up going with an Oleg Cassini dress which was ordered for me. However, I can't imagine that the brand of dress matters when it comes to ordering.

My dress came in within a month (they said it could be up to 3 months). I already picked it up and it was in perfect condition.

Also, I took my flower girls there to look at dresses and I was told that those too would have to be ordered.

I'm sorry for your experience there; I can't believe they would have told you that. If you are up for it, call and see when Amanda will be there. Like I said, I had a very good experience there. Good luck!!!

Re: Another Davids Bridal Question/Rant

I went to the Lake Grove store last week for shoes, and I had the same problem. They tried to tell me I had to take the used, dirty ones that everyone tries on. I have a friend who has been in many weddings and a few months ago she went in for a bridesmaid gown and they did they same thing to her too. The one they made her purchase had deodorant and sweat stains, and there were even a few holes in it from the security tags. She asked for a small discount because it was damaged and of course they said no. It is a good thing she had warned me otherwise I would have ended up with dirty, old shoes, LOL. I politely said to the sales girl that if they couldn't order me new ones, then I wouldn't be making a purchase there. She quickly changed her mind. So it's not even a matter of them not being able to order things, its that they refuse to do it. I just wish I knew what their actual policy is. Good luck!!

I can't beleive they told a bold face lie like that. Yes they do order dresses for you. I ordered my dress from them and it came in 2 months. I would try a different David's becasue it sounds like they don't want sales.

I have heard so many bad stories about them, I decided not to use them for my Wedding dress. But my BM might want to go there for their dress. We'll see how it goes!

I ordered my dress from the one in Lake Grove. I had no problems at all. It came in about two months later. That girl isn't there anymore but I have a new consultant that I met with today and she was really fun, nice and outgoing. She even took me into their receiving room so I could check out my dress in the back and helped me to make sure that my fiance didn't see my dress. (I didn't know I was going to have to take it home today because they really don't hold your dress there unless its in for alterations..... truly though the only downside is that you have to pay $10 for a solid colored garment bag). If you do decide to go back ask for Amanda. She really was great. She went out of her way to make me happy and get exactly what I wanted. I just happen to have been there today.... lol

Re: Another Davids Bridal Question/Rant

After reading all of the responses from yuo girls, IM wondering why my salesperson told me that they sell you the dress that is right there in the store, provided it is not extremely trashed. I went last May, one year before my wedding date. Maybe different stores try to push it more then others? I went to the one in Lake Grove. I didnt get good vibes from that place anyway.

The one in Lake grove told me I had to buy the floor sample, with foot prints and makeup on it.

I left and went to Westbury, they ordered it for me no question asked.

Just one bit of advice, go on a week night, not the week end, You'll get much better service.
