and most likely a second wedding for us in 2004. My son just phoned and said he got engaged! I can't sleep and can't possibly start making phonecalls, so I find myself here, sharing the news with all of you.
And to think, I just found my gown for my daughter's wedding after a long, grueling search. A son's wedding is different though. I need to wait for the bride's mom to make her choice first.

Congrats! You are going to have a lot going on in the next year! I do want to say one thing though. My fiance and I are getting married in April 04. His sister got engaged six months after us and is getting married 6 months after us also. So, we also have two weddings a few months apart. I am not sure how close you are with your son and FDIL, but please don't forget about them and the joy that they are going through. It seems as though parents are more involved and excited when their daughter gets married than when their son does. My FMIL and FFIL are no where near as involved in our wedding as they are in their daughters, and our wedding is first. So, my advice is, just don't overshadow your son and his future wife, get involved and be happy! Good luck!

Chris'mrs, you are so right, and your message was very well said. I am so sorry you are not getting the involvement and help from your FH's family that you would like. I am sure, though, they are equally excited and happy for the two of you. This is my youngest son and we are extremely close. However, I never want to be the kind of MIL I had, so I would probably hold back so as not to appear pushy. And that would be true whether my daughter is getting married or not. But you are absolutely right. His wedding and marriage is just as important an event in our family as is hers, and I will make every effort to offer my help and try to share my experience and all the good information I learn from everyone here. His wedding will probably be bet. 4-5 months after hers.
I would like to add that we definitely started on the right foot yesterday and I really feel great about it today. I was quite sick in bed from Thurs. to yesterday morning. When my son said they would come over in the evening, my daughter ran out to the supermarket and to the Mall for some small gifts, and we gathered the rest of the family for champagne and dinner. I never thought I'd have the strength but we pulled it off and at breakfast this morning my son said he was extremely happy that we showed them such love and joy.

LImom - thanks for the reply. I am sure that you are truly just as happy for your son as you are for your daughter. It is such a happy time in all of your lives, that everyone needs to just cherish the time and be thankful you have eachother. I am glad to hear that you celebrated with them, I know it meant alot to them to have you share in their joy. Good luck to you and both of your children.
