Re: another house-hunting question for those who already own
It took us just under 3 months to close but that was because we were not in a rush and the people we were buying the house from were house hunting in FL.

I think it depends on how fast the people you are buying the house from want out and how fast you want in.

Re: another house-hunting question for those who already own
It def depends on the seller and how quickly they can get out of the house, which depends on whether or not they already have a place to live.
We put a bid on our house in mid-October Went into contract October 31 Closed December 13
Just to give you an idea of our timeline.
ETA: The longest part is waiting for the bank to approve your mortgage. Everything else is pretty quick.

It depends on the sellers. We bought an EMPTY house from a contractor & it took from May 17, 2005 Until August 18th to close....

Re: another house-hunting question for those who already own
We were an unusual situation. We found the house in Nov 06 and we signed the contracts Nov 15th. But we aren't closing until the end of March. We are in an apartment complex and our lease is up on 4/30/07. Our sellers were very willing to accomodate our time frame.

We put in an offer on January 26th, we went into contract on February 15th, and we're scheduled to close on or about March 19th (which means any time between then and April 19th). The house we're moving into is currently vacant. We were fine with closing earlier (the bank too) but, that's the date they put into the contract.

we've been pre-approved. the seller said they'd be out asap, if we accepted their counter (which i'll know by the end of business today if we will)

I'm not talking about a pre-approval. I'm talking about after you sign the contract, waiting for the bank to give you the real approval for your mortgage.

It took us just under 3 months because the people we bought from had to settle on the house they were moving into. We were already pre-approved.
