We received a Certificate of Marriage in the mail - but doesn't appear to be from the state (i.e. no mention of where the certificate is from or issued by). ... should I have another certificate from the state coming? (We got married in the church)

who sent it to you? You get one from the church and one from the state. But where did the mail come from?

yeah .. threw out the envelope w/the return address - oops!! We got it in the mail after returning from our honeymoon - and my jet lag made me dismiss the fact that it didn't look like it was from the state. I'm almost positive it is not from the state b/c it doesn't have any mention that it's a certificate from NYS.

The one from the state comes with a letter from the congressman or someone congratulating you. Did it come with a letter from the state.
My church one was colorful.. the state one is biege with a seal on the bottom.
its probably the church one.

Ah ok .. yeah , I thin it's from the church. I wonder where my state one is?! Thanks for the help ladies!

your marriage certificate should come from your local town hall that it was filed in--and it will have NYS listed as well as a raised seal and be signed by someone from the Town and include a letter congratulating you on your marriage. and it does say New York State on it.
