Another Possible LIRR fare increase?!?

I'm so angry right now!!! Has anyone heard more about this? All I've seen so far was this article from News 12

LIRR fares up again?

I'll seriously have to quit my job here in NYC if the fares go up again - I'm spending almost 3K a year as it is, there's NO WAY I can afford any more than what I'm paying now!!!



So infuriating! Does anyone know of any publishing jobs here in the island?

I'm gonna have to ask for a big raise. This is ridiculous!! The d@mn trains don't even run on time.... and lets not talk about maybe cleaning them a little.

ETA: I already am past the 3k mark.

There is no way in hell I am moving out to Long Island if they raise the fares again. Its a good thing my FW is aware and accepts this (since she was born and raised out in Riverhead).

We are considering NJ as a possible place to buy a house down the road. Granted she will be way the hell away from her friends and family... but she already understands that we are most likely not affording the house we would want in Long Island.

I'm seriously so mad about htis right now - and I totally agree with you on the dirty trains!! Do we REALLY have to spend our ride home smelling like we're sitting in a bathroom?!? GROSS!!! Here's my post on the actual News 12 message board - doubt it will do anything as usual, but I really need to vent!!!!

I didn't really want to commute to manhattan from LI anyway...maybe this will sell DH on the Idea of moving to Jersey or to westchester

They really have some nerve. We have some of the dirtiest, poorly kept & poorly run trains in the world & also one of the most expensive.....ugh...makes me mad

hey i'm in publishing too stinks about the fare increases....

Okay, just read another article from Newsday about this - they're saying the hike could be up to 5% with service cuts and reduced rush hour trains!!! What is going on?!?!?

Every time they threaten to increase, I always wonder how much they’d save if just turned down the danged AC! BRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrr

Seriously though, I understand they need the money for the upkeep. Almost every week I get on a train with some problem or another. This week was a train with the 3rd & 4th cars doors just NOT opening at all. The duck tape solution to seats and walls is pathetic, the peeling of the train walls, lose seats that you can actually see the backs of, vestibule areas that have been re-surfaced and are bubbly now, rattling doors that keep jerking while the door is open, broken emergency exit handles on the windows, etc.

I think they should have better prioritized what the heck they were doing. Fancy new trains (the double deckers, which I now have a HUGE bruise from!!!!) and all the fancy technology and the remodeling of Jamaica. What about wear & tear and track work?

The first time they rose the rate I did NOT complain. Mostly I guess cause I realize the cost for me to own a car and the upkeep on a car was much more than riding the train in. Including the metrocard I that I buy - Im just under $3,000 a year right now.

If it goes up again before my wedding I may have to start taking the bus into Jamaica and then the subway.

We want to get an apt further into the Island. Jim is fully understanding about having to drive TOWARDS the city to get me a better LIRR price then drive BACK to Suffolk for work. You do what you have to do.
