Another QOTD

Another QOTD

Inspired by This CNN Article

What would you do if you already committed to being a BM/MOH in 1-2 weddings (whatever your financial limit was) and when the weddings are coming up soon, someone very close to you (sister, cousin, best friend etc) gets engaged with a relatively short engagement? You've already committed to the other(s), and don't think you can afford to be in all of them.

I would be in all 3 weddings. I've already committed to the first two, so I wouldn't back out. I also couldn't say no to a close friend/family member. They made credit cards for occasions like this!

I was in a similar situation a few summers ago. It was the summer that EVERYONE got married. I'm sure all you girls have gone through this summer, or will at some point. It's like everyone in your circle of friends gets married that year. I was the MOH in 2 weddings and a BM in a 3rd all in one summer. Not to mention attended as a guest 5 other weddiings that summer. I literally had a wedding, shower and/or bachelorette party EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND of the summer of 2004, sometimes 2 events in one weekend. It was insane. I also had 2 other weddings earlier in the year and one in the fall. It s-u-c-k-e-d big time. But I figured it out. For me personally, and I realize everyone won't agree, I wasn't going to not be part of the biggest days in my closest friends lives. I scrimped and saved and did without and made it all work and I made way less money then so I don't know how I did it, but I did. Just like i was surprised at how much we were able to put away for our wedding, i was surprised then just how much I could save if I put my mind to it. I was exhausted and broke, but it was a really fun summer with many memories. And I knew that one day it would be my turn and they would all do the same for me, and they did.....they are now all pregnant or have little ones to take care of which is a whole new set of expenses, but they all came through for me and I'm sure they wouldn't change a thing either.

I completely agree. I would do everything I could to be there for my friends, but I would all make them aware of the situation. I knew most of my bridesmaids were tight on money when I started planning and I've kept it in mind for everything. I don't want them to go broke just for my sake.

I agree with both of you. Especially having been on this side now, I will go out of my way to be there for my friends when its their turn. I've also been trying to keep costs down as much as possible for everything. I wouldn't be able to say no to a close friend though...
