Another question about tipping? I know the rules but
Original post by JIFFY
just wondering what you girls are giving personally? My tipping came out to $1975.00 I just don't know how that could be. I didn't think I was being extravagant.
If you don't think this is too personal a question could you please tell me what you are tipping your vendors and what about delivery/set up people?
Thanks girls! I really need this one!

well I understand, but even if I give to the waitstaff, who I do feel should get something, if the halls not giving it to them.......... what the heck does the makeup lady need a $100 tip for? she just made $450 in 2 hours (and she makes us pay in cash, so I'm sure tax is questionable). I'd be happy to make over $200 an hour. Another hundred on top of it just seems like too much, maybe $20- $50 okay.
Wow, I guess I'm just still in shock that tips are gonna come to 2,000. I didn't account for that much. I'm sure I'll end up feeling bad and paying it out.
I guess I should have anticipated better. Errrr.

yeah i know what you mean, you think you account for everything and then in the end theres all these tips.
Depends, if the make-up or hair person has their own business and its theirs then you wouldn't tip them bc you never tip owners of a business. If they work for someone else then they don't see the $200 fee, they get just a percentage of that. Depending on how that business is run.

Oh God does it ever end???
To answer someone above, I do not think you need to tip the banquet manager. I wonder if they make a commission on selling your wedding? Whatever. That's neither here nor there, that's me thinking.
Okay, so I'm having a string trio at the church. Do I have to tip each player? What about the sax and percussionist I'm having at the wedding to play with the DJ? What about the people that deliver the flowers to your house? Even if your photographer owns the company are you tipping them? Are you supposed to tip the bartenders at your wedding even though your guests probably will?

Re: Another question about tipping? I know the rules but
espo22,
thanks for the advice, I think thats a good rule of thumb.
For instance my ceremony trio are all teachers, that do this on the side, I pay all cash, and they split it 3 ways. There is no overhead, they don't have a storefront or anything, and they all own their instuments. I mean they don't even have a website. I guess that makes them owners of the business, so they wouldn't get a tip. Same with my hair/make-up people.
where the valets and waiters would because they don't own anything and aren't making a profit off me.
I like this rule, it makes sense, and I will apply it when I can

You do NOT tip your banquet manager. He or she makes a commission off the total contract price. If he or she doubles as your maitre'd, then you can consider tipping them.
Here's my question -- Does the Maitre'd tip get distributed to the wait staff?

No. It goes solely to the Maitre'd. Also, I worked at a RH for years and never once did I receive a tip from the bride and groom if I was not attending to them. The only time I received tips was from the people whose table I was serving. So now that I'm seeing everyone writing about tipping the waitstaff, I'm wondering if the maitre'd pocketed that if it was ever given.

Re: Another question about tipping? I know the rules but
My BM at my RH told me I dont have to tip the waitstaff & Bartenders that's who gets the 18% service charge. I dont plan on it either. If my guests want to give them a tip (some people in my family get together and tip the waitress for their table) then thats fine but I am not giving them any extra. As for the others:
Maitre d: $750.00 Bridal Attendant: $100.00 Dj: $75.00 MC: $50.00 to $75.00 (he owns the place so I really dont have to) Photogs: $50.00 each Video: $50.00 Drivers $40.00 each Flower delivery guy: $10 or $20
