I heard something on the radio the other day that got me thinking.....
Did you ladies ever talk with FH about getting married? Was there any pressure for FH to propose? Did you not see it coming at all?
For me - I was kind of at the breaking point. When FH got a job in CT, he wanted me to move with him - So I quit my job, commute from CT to Stony Brook for my masters, and moved away from all my family. I told him if I did this, he has 1 year to pop the question or I was moving back home. I had to know I was doing all of this for a reason. Well 11 months later, he popped the question. So we definitely talked about it and I knew it was coming but I was totally surprised at the way he did it.

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
hmm, for us we both always knew we would get hitched one day, we're always talking about 'when we get married..' on those drives homes after a wedding we attended, not sure if there was that much pressure on him though, if anything i think he woud've done it sooner had his sister not been waiting for HER engagment first... he pretty much gave it away when he was ring shopping so it was and it wasn't a surprise proposal haha, i just didnt' know exactly when it would happen.

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
I had been dating my FH for 8 years before he proposed. And I was definitely feeling like $hit or get off the pot, so to speak. I had moved to Japan for a few months to teach, and when I moved back home I wanted to move in together. When he said that he wasn't ready, I was devastated, and ready to go right back to Japan. But, a few weeks later, he proposed! He wasn't ready to move in, because he had saved his money for the ring!

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
FH would always bring it up about getting married and living together, I never really thought about it until he would bring it up. I never pressured him about it, until he started teasing me about my ring-once I knew he had it-I wanted it

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
we had always talked about it but i never pressured him to ask me...I was fine with waiting a while but he was the one who wanted to get married like NOW!! He apparently has a very strict timeline of 'married with kids' so I guess he wants to get on that now being he turns 30 in 2 1/2 years...guess the kids timeline will have to wait!!

We talked about it all the time and he was pressured. we almost broke up many times over it and if he didn't do it when he did we would have been over.

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
We talked about getting engaged for awhile. I'd say it was a good 9 months I did tell him when we moved in together that I wanted things to get more serious and take the next step so I guess there was some pressure too! But he felt the same way. We were very honest with each other. The money just wasn't there for a ring cuz he had just bought a new car (his old one died on him).

we talked about it all the time. I would jokingly tell him that I NEEDED a ring and I couldn't live without one, but there was never any pressure for him to propose.

I pretty told him I was kicking him out of the house if he didnt get his sh*t together. I raise his two kids...so I needed some sign of commitment.

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
It is something we def. talked about a lot but i would never say there was pressure from either one of us to get engaged, the families on the other hand gave us pressure!

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
we spoke about it in passing a couple of times in the past 8 years. but in february of 2007, we were at my friends engagement party & FH turned to me & said, 'its upsetting that my dad is going to miss all these events when we get engaged & married.' his dad had only passed away a month prior. honestly i thought he had to much to drink & never thought anything of it. but 13 months later we were engaged.

We talked about it a lot and brought the ring together. If we didn't need a place to live we would have gotten married this month.

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
we always talked about it like 'when we get married ' , 'when we have kids' but it was always in a positive way. never a pressure of anything.
he kinda took it upon himself to decide that we would get angaged soon, he told me he had started a 'bling bling' account and that was his savings for my ring

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
we would talk about it but there was never any pressure. FH would bring up all the time that i needed to have a real teaching position instead of teachers assistant before we could get married. he would say that to throw me off because he had already bought the ring.

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
I always have these stories, or I tend to over-explain... either way here it goes:
BACKGROUND: Before FH I dated a 'boy' for 5.5 YEARS who PROMISED AND PROMISED and PROMISED a ring. Always something in the way. I should have known better, but you know...
I met FH and we got serious rather quickly... I don't remember who brought it up first but from pretty early on, we talked marriage. I told him I wouldn't take ANY of his talk seriously without a ring. 17 months after we started dating he bought it. There wasn't any pressure, but I wouldn't have been dating him at the 2 year mark without the ring. I just knew I didn't have to worry about that!

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
well after 4 years i was like WHERE IS THE RING? so sometimes i will throw hints here and there but it wasn't anything excessive I totally didn't know he was going to pop the question. It was a total surprise. Actually when i started hinting he had already bought the ring. He bought the ring 2 months before the actual engagement! He did it all!

Re: Another question for the Monday blues
There wasnt really much pressure. We had only been dating a year when we got engaged...but when you know he's the one- you just know!
