Here goes: I was invited to a party my friend was having. A small get together of a few friends...Just some drink, sandwiches, some card games...she says.....So I said I would love to come...I walk in her door yesterday and she said, Oh by the way, I am taking up a collection, I will need $40 from you for all of the stuff!!!! I couldn't believe it.....She never mentioned that before....I gave her $20, not happy about it and said I can't give anymore, I am going to my friends wedding tommorow in which I am giving them $200.....She goes oh well, I just spent $140, and I have no more money left. So I said oh well, you should have asked me before hand...If she did, I would have never went to the party!!! It sucked to!!!!
What do you guys think of this?

Re: Another vent

Re: Another vent
If she didn't have the money to cover the expenses she shouldn't of had the party, it is very rude of her to ask her guests to cover the expenses unless they offer.

Re: Another vent
It's very tacky to invite guests and ask for them to pitch in for the stuff, and then it's even worse to completely side-swipe them by not telling them until they walk through your door! Geez...

Re: Another vent
I've had people ask for money before, but it is usually beforehand and they are superclose friends (so it is more like we are all chipping in to throw the party).
just expecting $40 is rude and tacky

Re: Another vent
Very tacky...if you are hosting a party then your job is just that - TO HOST. Of course it is nice to bring something as a guest, but $40 is ridiculous and to ask for $ is even more ridiculous.

Re: Another vent
That is pretty bad, and totally tacky. I would be mad. Want to hear another case of totally tacky? Last year my boss had a BBQ at his house, and it was BYOM: bring your own meat. Meat! And someone had to bring their own grill because he didn't have a grill. He had a BBQ at his house and he didn't have any meat or a grill.
