another wedding dress question!

another wedding dress question!

Ok so there's the issue.

My grandmother was married in a beautiful Spanish lace dress and up until about a year ago I wanted to get married in her dress, but as I found out she asked a friend to hold onto the dress for her for safe keeping (they lived in an apartment at the time) and I guess didn't have the room to keep the dress. Said friend then either gave away or sold the dress, but the bottom line is that we have NO idea where the dress is.

My FMIL also was married in a beautiful lace dress and has offered it to me.

It is weird to wear her dress. Her daughter was going to wear it but the dress was not big enough. As fate would have it, the dress is exactly my size.

But it's weird right?

Also I'm not wearing my mom's dress because I'm not a fan. It was great for her, but it's not my style.

Option one - buy my own dress
Option two - try on her dress and see if it even looks right on me and maybe wear her dress

I say wear your FMIL's dress! I'm sure she will be honored to have you wear it!
Maybe you could also have it changed a little bit so it's not exactly the same and more like your own dress.

I think you should buy your own new gown. This way it is exactly what you want.

I would say do a combo of both. Wear her dress for the ceremony. I'm sure she would be more than honored but then buy your own dress for the reception. I think part of the entire wedding process is trying on gowns and picking the one you fall in love with. This way you dont offend your FMIL but you get to pick the gown of your dreams also

I think it depends how close you are to your FMIL ... personally, i would NEVER wear my FMIL's gown because i wouldn't want her to get that honor (she's a nice enough person, but sometimes she's annoying and rude and doesn't realize it).

however, if you are close with your FMIL, then try on her dress ... can't hurt

i don't know that i would wear my FMIL's dress.
but if you want, you can try it on. problem is if you don't like it when you have it on, you might hurt her feelings by telling her no afterwards.
i would just by my own dress and make sure its covered in lace if that what you want.
Pronovios has gowns with a spanish flare on them. i believe the line is called Fiesta

if my FMIL had a kick *** dress, I'd wear it! Think about it. You save a gazillion bucks and it looks good one? yeah..I'd wear it.

It cant hurt to try it on right?

Try it on, and see if you love it!

I say try it! I'm wearing my moms dress but i took it to a dressmaker to alter it the way i wanted it so i wasnt compromising on anything. She only is charging around $500 to rework all of the lace on the top and put on an entire new skirt! If you like it you could def. make it work. However, it also is a big 'honor,' so I would consider how close you are to your FMIL and also how your mom would feel. But i dont think its 'weird' as long as YOU feel comfortable!
