Antibiotics and BC (maybe TMI sorry)

Sorry if this is to serious of a question for a Friday morning before a 3 day weekend... lol

How long should it take to get the BC working back to full strength after taking antibiotics...

hope this isn't TMI but I am going to be taking them semi-long term and I want to make sure the BC Is working full strength for the HM... we DO NOT want HM babies

eta: i guess it could depend on the strength of the antibiotic too tho so you should just call your doctor or pharmacist and ask them!

100mg... once a day...

Thanks I will probably stop them sooner just to be on the safe side. I was thinking like a month before????

Thanks... I'll prob call my doc just to be 100% sure but I figured I'd ask on here I am sure I am not the only one who ever had to deal with this...

I just called my Dr. and spoke with the nurse. She is going to call me back with a definite answer from my doctor.

until you start a new pack of pills. i confirmed this with the pharmacist a few weeks ago.

i have one more week of using back-up for the same reason... stinks!

thats what i thought but i was just given antibiotics last week by my dr and she told me for 30 days use backup

do not stop the antibiotics - you need to finish the prescription for it to work fully

This. I always wait until I start a new pack of pills before I trust it. I wouldn't take the risk....its not worth it.

It depends on the antibiotic. Some interact differently. Def ask ur dr and pharmacist. Don't stop taking abx early, that's never recommended. Aaaand, take an acidophilus and yogurt w probiotics if u wanna prevent yeast infections and diarrhea

It is until you start the new pack of pills. In other words a full cycle AT LEAST she said!!!! She said longer if I can.

I not getting the antibiotics for any form of infection or bacteria. I have broken out a little and saw the dermatologist and he gave me meds for acne that's all. Not like something contagious or life threatening.

With the wedding less than 3 months away I think I am going to forego the antibiotics all together and stick with the creams he also prescribed. I would only be on the antibiotics for a month and have to come off. Then I fear I will break out worse from stopping the meds even closer to my wedding.

So that's the deal for anyone unsure it is at least one full cycle!

i agree w/ Rita. u have to finish all the prescribed med or run the risk of the virus/bacteria adapting to it.

It's prophylaxis for acne, so the prescription could be forever, there's no 'finishing' it.

Shauna, I'd make sure to do a full cycle of BC off the miniocycline with backup before trusting the BC to work on it's own again.

I think that's a better idea. I hear Duac is awesome, it's a benzoyl peroxide/antibiotic topical combo.
