Anxiety

Anxiety

So I started watching those youtube videos that feature wedding bloopers and gags, mostly from shows such as America's Funniest Home Videos, and one of the prominent themes is fainting, whether it's the bride or groom collapsing. Some of the commenters (yes, I always read those comments) said that you faint at the altar from extreme levels of stress and anxiety that cause you to lose oxygen to th brain. Well, I know they're prob not a medical professional, but has anyone heard of a bride or groom fainting during the ceremony? My FH has extreme anxiety issues, and I'm afraid either him or both of us will faint. I hope that this is completely irrational!

FH here. You faint b'c of a drop in Blood pressure. Someone who is standing for a long time straight up and not doing much moving around is subject to a drop in blood pressure, especially in a room where it can be warmer then normal and wearing a full suit. But at last there is a simple solution. When I went through the Police Academy we were always standing at attention for long period of times and couldn't move. Everyday someone would faint or collapse, and when that happened an instructor would scream at all of us to not lock our knees. Keep the knees slightly bent and this should eliminate the possibility of any fainting. Also go easy on the booze before hand. Hope this helps.

That is really interesting about the bent knees.

This is so true! I am a singer who has sung in many a choir and our director is always reminding us to bend our knees. Standing for extended periods of time (especially if you have anxiety) can be overwhelming and your body tends to tense up. It really does help if you can remember to do it.
