anxiety attacks

so i am a veryyy social person. but ironically, i also suffer from anxiety attacks, especially when i had a big day (HAH!!). my symptoms are nausea, vomiting, tunnel vision, tingling extremities, listlessness, weakness and much more. i have a Rx for xanax and i don't take it often. in the past 15 months, i've taken 15.

so whenever i feel a true anxiety attack coming on, i take a xanax and it helps TREMENDOUSLY. it doesn't make me feel doped up AT all, it simply makes the anxious symptoms disappear.

so... do you think it's okay to take a xanax on my wedding day if i start feeling sick? sometimes i already get nauseous and experience other anxiety symptoms when i think about how close it is... and not bc i'm unsure of marrying FH, but just bc it is such an enormous day and i will be at the epicenter. i already know for a fact that it is perfectly safe to take my low dose xanax (0.25 mg) when consuming alcohol. but i guess part of me feels odd about taking a xanax on my wedding day?? lol as i'm typing this, i'm realizing how ridiculous that sounds... but for some reason, maybe due to society's standards, i feel guilty about taking it. any opinions?? thanks!!

i wouldnt feel guilty at all... you'd feel worse if you let your anxiety take over and got sick... at least you know how the xanex will affect you....

oh my goodness ... i am a therapist! it is VERY common for brides to take a little something to take the edge off on their wedding day. why fight the way you feel and be concerned about having an anxiety attack (self-fulfilling prophecy) then just taking one and feel relaxed??? its a no brainer! dont beat yourself up about it. besides, no one has to know you took it other than you. just be smart about any alcohol consumption!

thanks so much for taking the time to respond. i am happy to hear that it is common for brides to take something to settle their nerves, and i know exactly what you mean about the self fulfilling prophecy. that has happened to me a number of times. i will definitely be conscious of my alcohol consumption (i'm a medical student) and i don't want to be a drunk bride anyway!! thanks so much though for your input. it definitely helps a great deal.

i think it will be fine-that is such a low, low dose of xanax..heck i get 2-3 mg when i get attacks and it still doesn't always work

make sure you enjoy your day, even if it means a lil help to do so

I think taking one on your wedding day is totally justifiable! Dont feel guilty, you only get one chance to enjoy your day!
