Anxious about my new name

Hello Ladies,
With 150 days to go, I’m feeling a little anxious about changing my last name. I love my last name. It’s been my name all my life. Not to say I hate my future last name. They are both common American last names. But it’s just the thought of being called something else. My fear is that someone at work will call me by my new last name and I would have no clue if they are talking about me. LOL. Hyphenated is out of the question I fought that fight too long. My FH is very old school in that way. What are your thoughts? Have any recent bride have any funny stories about their new name?

My new last name will be Bullock.... My current last name is Salmon lol. I always thought ANYTHING would be better than being named after a fish but Bullock is such a strong word haha!

I'm an actress though so I guess having the same last name of one of my favorite actress's (Sandra Bullock) isn't TOO bad! lol

I can't wait to change my name.
I have yet to even practice signing it (I think about grade school when you would write your first name and the last name of the boy you like...lol)

My last name is a very common Spanish name and Fh name is very uncommon. Although it is short, everyone says it wrong.

Well here's my dilemma... My FMIL has the same first name as me so we will actually both be Joanne LoPresto... and her husband (who passed away)his name was Anthony same as my FH so it will be another Joanne and Anthony LoPresto...

I am grappling with changing my last name.. I do think professionally I am going to keep my current name because I've been in this field to long and have made a name for myself and don't want that to disappear when people don't recognize the last name. But for everything else I will change I think...

I want to hyphenate my name because I am upset that I will be losing my Italian last name for an Irish one, but FH really doesn't want me to... so idk.. I'm a little upset about changing my name.

my maiden name is klos (pronounced 'klus'), first name is sarah. everyone called me santa clause my whole life. so i was looking forward to a change; however, i was officially the last one in my family with my last name, so that was sad for me.

my new name is parker, yes, like sarah jessica parker. i cant win!

in my current job, i choose not to update my name - in my email address. noone would find me. however, i did update it with hr. and more confusingly, i use my maiden name in parenthesis in my email signature. im all over the place.

i think hyphnated names get confusing - esp once you have kids.

Crashing...hi ladies! I've also been having a hard time with the idea of changing my last name. A friend of mine told me that she plans to drop her middle name, make her middle name her maiden name, and then legally take her FH's last name. I might go that route as well. That way your legal name still has your maiden name and your FH's name, but no hyphen.

**Crashing** I can't wait to change my last name. My last name is Katz and my new last name will be Py! 4 letters to 2, woohoo!!! I have never questioned taking my future husbands last name.

This is what I will most likely be doing. I am very sad about changing my name, but its important to me that I have the same last name as my kids. My last name could also be a first name (Patti) so if I ever have a daughter I may make that her middle name as well. I love my last name, and FH has a long, uncommon last name. A few vendors have even said 'oh wow' when we've given both of our names.

On a related note, someone just told me that Kleinfelds has a free service where they legally change your name on everything for you. (No waiting at the DMV, SS office, etc) Has anyone looked into this?

Crashing! I'll be taking my FH's last name and making my middle name my maiden name. I'm Korean and FH is Italian so I definitely want to keep the Korean part of my name. I personally would love to hyphenate but FH doesn't want that.

I will be hyphenating. FH isn't happy about it but I refuse to drop my last name. I love my last name, even though its a pretty common Spanish one. Also, my dad had no sons so in a way I'm also keeping it for him I will still be Mrs. C and our kids will just have FH last name.

Interesting. I also thought about hyphenating my first and middle and then legally making my maiden name my middle name. I have a friend whose mom hyphenated her name and the hyphenated her kids name. Their dad was always called by the hyphenated name that he ended up legally changing his name to the hyphenated last name. I have no idea if I would change it professionally yet because of email. But I will change it with HR. I remember my dad getting mad when a mail would come to the house with my mom's maiden name. He would say, 'You are not a doctor, a lawyer or a super star! Change your name!' But my mom felt it was her way of still being independent. I never got it until now.

I'm finally okay with taking FH's last name. I have a VERY long and VERY Italian last name, while FH has a short Irish last name. My last name has always been an interesting conversation piece for me. I introduce myself and automatically people say 'Oh! You're Italian!'. I sort of feel like I'm going to be losing my Italian-ness in a way. As I get closer to the wedding day though, I'm more excited about finally being Mr. & Mrs. I thought about hyphenating, but that's just going to be a ridiculous mouthful.

I'm looking forward to changing my last name. His is an easy one, mine is always being butchered on the telephone and i constantly have to spell it out using actual words (V as in victor, n as in nancy) So annoying, can't wait to change it!

I am dropping my last name & ending up with a hyphenated last name. FH has a hyphenated last name and he refuses to drop one. oh well..guess I have to deal with it

My maiden name is the same name as a girls name so I couldnt wait to change it as I already have an unusual first name. I got my first piece of mail with my husbands last name on it and they still spelled it wrong...grrrrr why cant my name be Ann Smith? lol

I decided to not change my name.
I've had my last name for 30 years and am very attached to it. I don't feel it changes any part of our marriage if I did or didn't change it, ya know?
I'm not sure if my fiance's parents know I will not be changing it... but like I've told other people, it's my decision. I've been dealing with a lot of change in the last month--turning 30, getting an apartment & moving out for the first time after the wedding and.... getting MARRIED that adding that stress to the list wasn't necessary and thankfully my fiance' is cool with it.

PS I have two first names and my fiance's last name is 9 letters long and mine is 8... I DID play with hyphenating, which I actually may do one day hahaha.... we'll see!

I will be taking FH last name, however i am unsure about work because I heard its very confusing for others. I am in a big corp so lets see lol.
My FSIL keeps making me spell out FH last name. FMIL who has passed had a funny way of spelling it for people. Letterese- L-e Double t as in tom- e-r-e-s-e, she would say it really fast and people would make her repeat it lol

**Crashing** My last name is Grossman so I really can't imagine NOT changing it. my new last name will be Gernon so I will still have all the same initials and I won't have to change my e-mail addresses :)
