Anxious Mom

Anxious Mom

Okay, so Genesio is 14 months and not walking. I know that children have up to 17 months to start to walk, but all the kids in my sons toddler class walk. and the little girl he used to be in the infant room with is now 10 months and today when I dropped my son off she was walking!! All my freinds and family have children that are either the same age or 2 months younger and they are all walking!!!
My son does have a foot that is pigeon toed. but the ped said that lots of children have this and he will walk when he's ready. But I'm starting to feel anxious. He's been cruising around using the furniture since March, but he does not let go and if you grap his hands when he's standing, he immediatley sits down. He does not use his push toys at all. Dh wants to take him to an orthopedist for his foot, but my ped says that's not necessary.
Am I just being reallly paranoid and overly anxious??

It is sooo difficult to be a patient parent when your child is not doing something that other children are. I understand your concern - really I do. I am trying not to get too upset that Paul is not talking yet.

Kids do things at different times, and while we want our own to be the 'over-achievers' of the bunch, they just might not be ready. And, seeing us get anxious and pushy does not help them...they need nurturing, caring, love and support in order to build their confidence. I am sure Geno will walk soon.

And, if not....than maybe seeing a specialist is not a bad idea....but, I would give him more time first. Especially since you said he is cruising.

ps - My great-grandfather's name was Genesio. I have always LOVED it, but it's one that you just don't hear very often anymore.

Thanks for the support, He's been perfectly normal with all the rest of his development, not early, but within the expectd time frame, so I guess I shouldnt expect this to be any different.

*Genesio is a family name here too. DH's uncle came here from Italy when he was young by himself, he had no money no education, He married and has a wonderful family. They are some of the sweetest people I know. He also made millions in LI real estate.
So I chose the name keeping in mind that I wanted our son to have the same kind of happiness and success. I though it was a good example.

I agree with Claud. Give him some more time. I'm sure once he starts you won't be able to get him to sit for a minute.

He will walk...trust me. My daughter walked before she was a year old, but my best friends daughter who is 3 months older than mine, didnt walk until late, and she was freaking out. They will walk when they are ready. And watch out, it happens immediately and they go everywhere. Be prepared. Does he have a toy that he can push? That helped my daughter. Not a walker, but like those little shopping carts, or those little things they sit on and we push them, they can push them on their own. I'm drawing a blank as to what they are called. But Toys r us has things that are their height that they can push for confidence.

Reena, that is a great story! While my great-grandfather was not a self-made millionaire, he does have a neat story...

He too, traveled to America from Rome as a young man. He met my great-grandmother and they were married. The owned a market and sold fresh veggies and produce. They lived in Astoria and had a 'summer cottage' on Long Island. By the time they moved to LI permanently, my great-grandfather had moved on to become a salesman - the FIRST EVER Ronzoni pasta salesman!!

BTW, my great-grandfather spelled his name Geneseo...but, I'm pretty sure the pronunciation is the same. He was most often called Gene.

Whew!! I'm feeling better now. I know it takes time. Being a mom can sometimes be soooo anxiety ridden! Thanks again for all your reassurance. Sometimes hearing it from BTDT moms can make a world of difference.
