I work in DC, but live in Rockville now. Just bought a condo in Silver Spring that we'll be moving to soon. Very familiar with Balto- FH and I both have a bunch of friends that live in that area (Canton, Federal Hill, and various places in Balto Cty). FMIL lived in Woodbridge until about a month ago. It's tough planning on LI from far away, though my parents, who live up there, have been a huge help.

How often do you both go up to do stuff? We were up in April and picked the reception spot and up in June and booked the photographer and dj. Trying to decide when to go back to do the florist.

I'm in College Park, MD. FH and I are grad students at the University of Maryland (I'm in Neuroscience, he's in Astronomy). Its hard, but we have a little under a year and have most things booked. I'm trying to get a lot done in my visits to NY.

We are staying in MD now until August so we can get some work done. I think at the end of August we'll go for the florist and officiant, and then we have all of our major vendors booked. We booked a lot during Christmas when we had some time off (hall, DJ, photographer, videographer).

I live in federal hill. we havent been up to NY since memorial day weekend which is when we picked and booked the riviera...we're going up in August to meet with photographers/djs...do you think we can do this both in the same weekend??? crap. living here makes it 10 times more difficult. It sux.

Sorry -- HH, not sure that is LI Wedding lingo or not, but HH= Happy Hour in my book. Seems like a lot of people both on here and theknot LI Board meet up for drinks and what not. Thought it might be fun to do one down here -- we can sympathize with the out of town planning and I'm always up for an excuse for HH .

Federal Hill is great... We love the houses there and actually thought about moving there or to Canton when we started looking to buy and then decided that we would completely stress ourselves out with the commute to DC every day....

And yes, I think you can do both photographer and DJ in one weekend. We did! We went up on a Thurs. night and literally spent all day Fri and all day Sat shuffling from appt to appt. Granted, we were exhausted.... but we did it.

You can do it if you do all your research ahead of time and call and make appointments in advance.
