any advice on haggling on dress prices??

i found a designer whose dresses i really love (Augusta Jones) but they are out of my price range. i know that some of you ladies have mentioned that you were able to get places to come down on price.

how did you get them to do that? and how much were they willing to budge??? any advice/info would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you find it cheaper somewhere else, just let them know and they'll most likely price match it. And if you don't find it cheaper anywhere else just name a price, see if they'll match it, if not they'll normally tell you the 'lowest they can go'. Just ask, what's the worse they're gonna say no?

First the sample was incredibly clean. It looked brand new. So I asked to buy that one, but it was still too much. So I told her.. my limit is ___ and she kept coming back with lower and lower prices.

In the end I ended up with my dream dress!

I made my saleswoman think that I would walk away from my dream dress b/c it was too expensive. Then she said I could have the trunk show discount (10%) b/c they recently had one for my designer. I hemmed and hawed some more---took off the dress. Then they threw in an extra 5%. Then I mentioned that the alteration price seemed steep considering the dress fit pretty well, so they knocked $100 of alteration price. I saved a total of $800.

My sister got her dress at bergdorf goodman and was able to get them to go down a couple of hundred, but it was a sample sale- dunno about if it is at regular price. Maybe see if anyone is having a sample sale that carrys that brand? Look on topbutton.com.
