Any advice? Rehearsal Dinner - nobody will let us do it!

Original post by AllyDrew1108

So we have a situation. Has anyone ever heard of this?

We can't rehearse for our ceremony because we're marrying at the hall on Saturday morning. We need to then rehearse quickly before the actual wedding. Not a big deal I guess... (this is because a wedding will be going on Friday night at the hall) ...

I have called a number of places near the Riveria so we can do a 'Thank You' dinner on the Friday night before wedding. People will be in town from all over the place so it's only fitting to do it at like 6PM the Friday night.

Nobody will allow us to do it because #1 it's a Friday night and #2 we have too many people - 31 (this includes bridal party and their dates, kids in wedding and their parents).

Picolo's in Bellemore won't do it unless it's 3-6 or 9-11 at night.

Butera's can't hold that many on a Friday night nor will they do a catering style menu.

Katy Daly's said they may be able to if we're there at 5 on the nose and no private room for that size.

Caio Baby is way out of our price range and they too were not happy about the Friday night 31 people situation. Said 5 on the dot may be doable, but the total cost was like close to $2K and way over our budget.

Sergio's I'm afraid to call cuz I've heard it's kinda not so nice.

Next, I'm calling Michelle at the Riveria for suggestions. This is crazy and none of our family members can host that large of a group and the Best Western does not have a party room of any sort.

Jani in Rockville Centre has a private room....They are very reasonable. Chinese/Japanese restaurant.

We had ours on a Friday night at Stresa East on Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury. They have a private room, but I think the minimum was 50 people. If you don't mind not having a private room, I'm pretty sure they would be able to help you.

There's also a place Rosewood Inn in Melville, near the Hilton. I'm not sure how many the accommodate, but I'm pretty sure they do private parties. We were too many people.

ETA: One other suggestion ... does the hotel you're using for your OOT guests have a restaurant or a banquet room that you can use & have catered?

Rosewood has terrific food, but they have karaoke on Friday nights, starting at 9:30 .... not sure if this is an issue for you.

Try these places:
- **** and Dora's
- Cafe Symposio
- Stillwaters
- Sal's Place (great place, on Hicksville Rd in Seaford, had my sister's baby shower there)
- Fra Amici
- Paddy's Loft

Thanks for all your help girls. I just called Piccolo's one more time, turns out they can do it just for a higher price. YEY! I liked that joint because it was a straight run from the Best Western.

I love Piccolos. They are so nice to work with there. We had my friends baby shower there.

Again thanks for all the FM and suggestions. I'm gonna look into your ideas, etc. It's good to know at least that Picalo's will do it in their private room - just for a higher rate. We really liked their food and the parking, etc.

We had the same problem w/ Friday nights. We ended up doing it at a pub in Floral Park called Trinity. The price was GREAT and they were more than accommodating. My RD is happening on Friday.

She already posted earlier in the thread that she can't have it on Thursday because her guests aren't local:

I wish we could do it another night but like a bulk of our bridal party are from other states like Vermont, NJ etc. We're coming in from NJ ourselves and I can't seem to get everyone to get there on Thurs. then back out there on Friday :(

Don't be afraid to call Sergio's! I had my engagement party there. I had about 35-40 people, and they gave us the room in the back. It wasn't the biggest place in the world, but everything else made up for it. The party was in September and all of the guests are STILL talking about how great the food was. Heck, I had a CHEF in Manhattan as a guest and HE loved the food!!

It was also an AMAZING deal!! They gave us SO much for the price they charged us! We got an appetizer, pasta, unlimited beer and wine, entree and an absolutely DELICIOUS cake (and my family isn't full of cake people - THEY loved it) for a really low price; I think it was around $35 or so.

Even if you don't end up going there, it's worth it to go to Sergio's. See Mike; he's awesome!

I do not have any suggestions for a venue but we are in the same situation with the rehearsal. Good Luck!

Sea Haven on Merrick Rd/Montalk Hwy in Lindenhurst is like 20pp including tip and tax. The food is great and they have a private room

Sorry we are out in SUffolk County so I do not know the area other than to get to my friends house in Bellemore....Prices in Nassau seem high though. We are looking now and getting $30-$35 pp including beer & wine, appetizer, salad, dinner & desert too. We also are having a thurs. night.\ which I understand you can not do. You'll find the perfect venue

my only suggestion is not do it at a restaurant near the hall but rather near your homes.

Ask for the private room at the Bulldog Grille in Amityville...its upstairs, private, and has a great balcony. Do the cocktail/buffet menu for like $30 pp. HTH
