When I was visiting LI last week we saw the STRANGEST, FREAKIEST bird I've ever seen!!!
It was hanging out with canadian geese. It was a bit bigger than a goose and was mostly all black. The body looked like a VERY large duck and it's wings were green (like a male duck). It had webbed feet and it's head was it's strangest feature. It had bright red around it's eyes and beak, almost looked like pieces of rubber. The shape of it's head made me think of a puffin. Maybe it was some kind of mutant bird from a toxic waste dump. I dunno...I've been searching online like a wild woman to find this 'bird.'
Anyone heard of or ever seen anything like this?!?!?!?

I'm a vegetarian too -- Vegan actually -- for 15 years! I love meeting other veggies, even if it is online. Ironically enough, I'm deathly allergic to so many animals though. I have two dogs (that I'm allergic to, but not severely) but unfortunately, my allergies keep me from working directly with animals. I also could not handle putting animals to sleep just because people did not want them (which is what happens at many shelters and vets), so I decided to work at a nonprofit animal rights/environmental org instead. Turned out to be too much office work and not enough animal saving so I left after almost 6 years. My hubbie and I want to start a rescue of some sort when we retire. Talk about planning for the future!
Ohhhh! You just made my night I have a vegan friend and I have to give you girls a lot of credit! I think it's very hard b/c cheese is my downfall! Well I just turned 3 years w/o meat and couldn't be happier. Wish it was sooner tho. I am sorry you are allergic, that's so sad =( I don't know what I would do if I were or my FH..I was thinking about helping out at a shelter also, but my emotions got to me first. It kills me to see all of them in there knowing some of them aren't going to get homes If I were rich, I would make a haven for ALL of the animals on their last call That is why I am not a fan of breeding; every animal you force to make, another dies in the shelter But anyway, glad you posted, we should do a veg lunch one day

Another vegetarian here! (Well, OK, I occasionally cheat and eat fish. I can't say no to sushi. But I'm working on it...)

Question for you vegetarians..... I was just looking at the apartment listing in my local paper and there was one that advertised 'vegetarian preferred.' Does this sound a little strange to you?

The 'veg preferred' thing does sound strange, but I think I know what it means. Probably, the apartment has a kitchen shared by several people, and the vegetarians would rather not have meat cooked on their stove or in their pots and pans or whatever. Maybe they'd rather not have meat in their fridge either. That's my guess!
Most vegetarians I know aren't all that strict about stuff like that.

I was going to say something like this..If it is an apartment rented by one couple this is probably the reason. It doesn't offend me, actually I would prolly do the same. lol I wouldn't want anyone cooking up animals in my home...

lol. I actually never liked the smell or taste of any kind of seafood to begin with. So I had a jumpstart when I flipped the switch Good luck with your willingness to stop.
