Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
Not yet - I need a year of critical care before applying to the program and I also, believe it or not, need to take college level physics which I haven't taken since highschool. Talking about highschool, I have to get ready now for my 10 year reunion (ugh!!!) but I'm planning on applying to Columbia and Brooklyn College (there are only 4 programs in NY and the other two are Albany and I think Binghamton)...Hope to hear more from all of you -

Anne-how cool, another Brockport alumni! I graduated in 1999. I also needed the whole 'going away' experience. You have to let me know who some of your professors were-I had Zara Brenner, Kathy Petersen Sweeney, Margie Lovett Scott, etc... Clinicals were at Highland, Strong, St.Mary's.

Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
Hey Margaret - I think Molloy is the best school for nursing....I had originally wanted to go to Adelphi but didn't like it so Molloy was a great choice. I have to find the name of the professors I took (I forgot some names) and I'll let you know....

Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
Molloy (a few years ago) was the best place to go for nursing. Not anymore. There are a lot of people graduating from Molloy in the past few years who are not passing the boards! Last I saw from the list from the NYS dept of ed, Molloy has less than a 90% pass rate as of the class of May 2001. The best 2 schools in this area for pass rates are Adelphi (the highest in the state, I didnt believe it until I saw it on paper) and Nassau CC. There are a few people in my class who were students at Molloy and have come over to our school because they hated it. When I was doing my clinicals in NSUH @ Manhasset, nurses were telling me that they had to lay off some new grad orientees (from Molloy) because they didnt pass thier boards after 3 tries! I find that people who go into a nursing program who already have some kind of educational background do better overall than people who are going to school for the first time. It is possible that many people in the last few years were traditional students as compared to second degree or second career students. In addition, the students at Adelphi get to take part in a 260 hour internship. No other school in this area does that. I have heard from students at other schools claim to have a similar experience but they only do like 40 hours or something. This is a great way to get your foot in the door in the specialty you love. Things are constantly changing in nursing, and the shortage is also effecting the # of nursing instructors, so any school is at risk to fall behind. Sorry so long!

Danielle- Yes, I had Zara for Critical Care rotation and man either she liked you or didn't Lucky for me, she liked me We too worked through Strong, Rochester General, and Hyland. Gosh, my mind is drawing a blank right now about some other professors I had, because I am just shot. Had my E-party today and over all it was a very long weekend for me. I will get back to you on that though, just wanted to drop a note to ya. Where are you currently working now? You can FM if you like. Talk to ya soon! Anne

Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
I had also heard that about Molloy, but from my own personal experience, it was still a great school. I didn't like Adelphi for many personal reasons but one was because they kept changing the requirements to graduate and also (i guess this is two) their nurses were not required to take pharmacology (scary). It may be different now but that was my situation.
For all of you studying nursing wherever you are, just do your best and love what you do. As far as the boards, I didn't even take a class - just bought one of those review books and studied it from cover to cover and did many practice tests - and I passed the first time. I seem to remember a lot of prioritization questions and signs and symptoms questions.
Any other nurses out there??? How are the wedding plans going???

Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
Oh boy did we have to take Pharm!! That class was hard as hell. I know that Nassau students dont have to take pharm, its an elective. You are right about Adelphi changing the requirements often, and that ****s, this semester they added a research class seperately, and this woman thinks she is teaching her masters/doctoral students. I believe next semester they are increasing the clinical hours, so I am glad that I am out before that happens! Other than that, the wedding plans are going well, and I am getting my resume and cover letters together to start applying for jobs. Today we got the applications to apply for the NCLEX, so I feel like I am finally getting ready to get out of school. I hear that I can take the boards the first week of July or something like that, and I cant wait to get it over with. I guess it really doesnt matter what school we all go to, as long as we are getting a good education. Sometimes I think I should have gone to a state school and saved myself a lot of $$!!

Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
State school for myself was a fun time. I couldn't afford a private school, so didn't have a choice. I started at Stony Brook and then moved onto Brockport and it was a good education. All my professors were intellgent RN's and I learned a lot from them all.

Re: Any bride/nurses out there????
I am glad that the nurses have gotten in touch with each other, but maybe we should start a post for health care workers, so others such as the nice PA who replied could also feel free to respond.
Tarakin, what area do you work in?

Imagin916, I go to Adelphi University. It's in Garden City. I live in West Islip,so it's a little drive, but it's wworth it. They offer a BSN degree I was just reading some of your posts, and we have to take Pharm now. My friend is taking it now and she says that it is very hard.
