I just feel like a DJ or Band would be too much money...I really wanted a band...anyone else having this problem or had this problem and had/will not have dancing?

Re: Any brides NOT having dancing at their weddings??
In my complete and totally honest opinion, without music and dancing a wedding would just feel like a dinner or a work-related banquet of sorts.
I think it goes with the whole idea of the day.
Bands are on the pricey side, and some people feel they are more 'elegant' or whatever.
A good DJ is probably around 1/2 the cost of a band. And there are inexpensive DJs too.
I don't think music is the right choice of where to cut costs for a wedding ... music and food are the things that most guests will remember about your wedding.

Ok, thanks. I guess I will just have to realize that a band isn't in the cards for me and I'll look into DJs...

I definitely think music/ dancing is an important part of a wedding. You can get a great DJ for an inexpensive price... mine was under 1K, definitely worth it!!!!!! Bands are usually a lot more, I have heard.

I agree, if you don't want music...then just plan a dinner for some people. I would not have at a recption hall though with no music.

Re: Any brides NOT having dancing at their weddings??
i found out early on.. bands werent in the cards for me either.. even discounted!
im def getting a dj now.. and the prices are better.. but if you dont think you can afford that
i know my place has a full sound system you can hook an ipod up to... def not the same feel as a dj. bc the dj usually conducts the party persay but stil a way to have dancing at your wedding
i really think for me its the most important part! of the actual reception

Hey - Yes, you definitely helped...I can totally afford a DJ, but I guess i'm just bitter because I really wanted a band...haha...
Anyone have a good DJ they recommend that isn't super corny? I don't want any dancers that go with it, don't want light show or anything either...

We used Tommy's Tunes and they were excellent!!! We didn't have a light show or dancers or anything like that (not necessary at all for a great party!!) those extras are just that-extra $$.

Re: Any brides NOT having dancing at their weddings??
Agree with a PP, a wedding without music is just another dinner.
I really wanted a band when we first started to think about our planning, but in the end, realized that a dj can be just as good and set the mood as well as-if not better, sometimes- than a band.
A friend had a band at her wedding and when they took a break, the place just died... That has never happened at a wedding with a dj that i've been to. There are some great DJ companies out there, so don't stress over this. You can find a great one who will set the mood wonderfully and you won't even notice that there isn't a band stand in the room.

If you cannot afford a DJ, you can hook up your ipod to a laptop or speaker system and designate one of your friends (or a group of them) to be the 'DJ' for the evening.

Re: Any brides NOT having dancing at their weddings??
I was at a wedding without a DJ or band. They had an Ipod Hooked up to a sound system (provided by the hall) and a friend was changing the songs and MC'ing. It wasn't horrible but for the most part it ******.
