Any computer people out there

I am about to set up my printer. It's a Dell All in One, printer/fax/scanner.

If I wanted to fax something, can I do it through my cable modem? Or does it have to be through a phone line?

If phone line, OK. I can always scan and pdf the document and e-mail it. Most people have adobe anyways and if not, the reader is free to download. But it would be cool for my fiance to fax his dad at work as his dad doesn't use a computer but has a fax machine.

You have to attach a phone line to the multifunction. I have a cable modem and the multifunction as well and never had a problem faxing.

You either have to have a phone line attached, or use an online faxing service, wherein you scan the document in and email it to a fax number via a fax service. It's easier to hook it up to a phone line.
