any couples moving off the

island after the wedding? My finace and I met at school and he already has a teaching job upstate. I am kind of upset since we will be so close to his family and far from mine. But he has a great job and I would feel horrible asking him to leave. I just feel so torn between LI and living upstate... just had to vent...

I can relate Janine. My FI works in NJ, so it looks like that's where we will be going. I know it's the best thing for him, but I am so sad about leaving everything and everyone. I know, it's only NJ, but it feels so far away!

*sigh* The things we do for love!

I moved off the island in 2000, after that NYC and now I live in NJ (FH and I both ended up getting jobs in NJ and decided to move). I actually like NJ.

Sometimes it's nice to move to a new city/state where you both have never lived before.

We're probably moving off LI (to CT) after we're married.

I moved before the wedding!
Don't worry, despite what anyone says, there is life outside of Long Island
I agree with Septbride, this is an adventure, and you are starting you new life together

You are just moving upstate not across the country or world. My sis moved (well, stayed in Penn after school). She's about 3 hours from home. We can go there and she can come here for a weekend. Think of LI as a weekend vaca place. Besides, LI is SOOOOOO expensive.

I'm moving to a whole new country!!! I'm so torn. Excited about it in a way, but also apprehensive--I know I'm going to miss my family sooo much!

We are outta here after saving some money by living with his parents....we're thinking about 6-8 months after the wedding. We don't want to live here and most of our friends are leaving as well....

Like Robeymuse I also moved BEFORE the wedding!

I moved to Michigan to join my FH who is law school out here.

Actually it is a nice step back from all the stress and stressed out people in NY (not that I don't like it at home - just this is different - everyone smiles and is not running somewhere always)

Relax you should be happy anywhere as long as you are together - and upstate is NOT that far it should be easy to still visit home.

We'll be moving to Florida - a month before.

We are thinking about moving to Florida. Everything just costs so much on Long Island!

We are going to be looking into moving off the island after the wedding. It is so expensive here and we just don't feel like we will have as good a life here as we would somewhere else (where we could afford a house).

I moved to New York City 2.5 years ago and just moved to LI. Never thought I would be here permanently, but FH really can't go anywhere else b/c of his job (plus I don't think he would ever leave his family.) It is so difficult as I miss my family and friends in Louisiana so much. I cry all the time about it but am accepting it. It just very hard to deal with esp. when my FH can't relate to me on this

Well, we had to move to GEORGIA, due to his job!!!! I miss Long Island so much.. One day hopefully we will move back.. NJ and Upstate NY is not too bad, at least you can drive out for the weekend.. The one thing I miss more than anything (besides friends and family) is the OCEAN!!! The things we would do for love!!!! GOod luck girls..

I live in NJ too...FH moved in with me since I bought a house before we met. NJ is just as expensive as LI...but we both work here. I drive to LI all the time to see family and friends...its no big deal.

Where upstate are you moving to? FH has a daughter and we drive up to Newburgh every other weekend to get her. Don't worry...you will still see everyone and there's always email and the phone. You'll be fine...and you'll probably be able to buy a house much faster upstate then you will on LI.

All you NJ girls, I grew up in LI, moved to NJ and now I am back to LI. My FI is from NJ but he is moving to LI in June. I am happy that I am not leaving. It is tough to plan being apart, but soon he will be here!

HI Tessie!
My FI and I are planning on moving to PA this summer , pending on if I find a job or not. We both grew up here, but it is not for either of us anymore. We met in PA and we are very excited about going back!
