Not to be overly dramatic but we're moving to South Africa because that's where FI is from (where we met) and where he will be working.
It's an 18 hour flight and super expensive so we will come back once a year.
I've lived there before but we love NYC so much and I don't know anyone there. We're sad to go. Hopefully it's just for 2-3 years. Guess I'll try to have a baby soon since I can't work there.

Re: any couples moving off the
FH are actually living in CT now. He got a job there after school, so then I looked here and got a job. We'll be here for a while unless either one of our companies move.

Re: any couples moving off the
We might move to North or South Carolina (if North then in or near Tryon or Asheville; if South then near or in Landrum).
It's georgeous out there. And hopefully I'll be either pregnant or after the pregnancy and won't be too upset if I cannot find another law library job.

I think FH and I will move after a couple of years, depending on our finances. We don't want to raise kids here though.

Re: any couples moving off the
thank you so much girls... I feel better knowing that there are people out there going through what I am with moving and all. We will probably end up in the saratoga area...thats where he is teaching. It's just hard because my parents want me so much closer and I know they are upset about it...but its not a terribly long drive and I can come back any random weekend. Thanks for the support!!!! You are all awesome!

Re: any couples moving off the
My FH and I just talked about going of of LI. We're both professionals (like many out there) and still can't afford a home here, with taxes and all. It's pathetic how much $ it costs here. We talked about PA and see that its much less expensive. So, we're starting to look into it, although my family will be not happy at all.

IT'S FUNNY THAT SO MANY OF YOU ARE MOVING OFF THE ISLAND. I GREW UP AND STILL RESIDE IN BROOKLYN. MY FH IS FROM LI. SO AFTER WE SAVE ENOUGH FOR A HOUSE, WE ARE PROBABLY GOING TO LIVE IN LI.

Re: any couples moving off the
I would LOVE to stay on LI, my family, friends, work, all my interests are here, But realistically speaking, it's not affordable. Even working 2 jobs, its crazy. Homes are 7-8 times the amount they were when my parents bought (but most salaries are only 2-3 times what they were). Sorry if I'm a downer

Re: any couples moving off the
My fiance and I are moving to Florida, as soon as the house is built there, sometime next fall.
I think about this as moving away from my folks to start my own family, so it's a possitive thing.

Re: any couples moving off the
I moved off LI to SI just this year. It was really hard to leave my parents and doggies behind so I visit at least once a week. My FH is very understanding. We will probably wind up buying out of the NY Metro area too. It is just too expensive!

Re: any couples moving off the
I did the opposite. I grew up in Brooklyn but my family moved to NJ while I was in college. I just moved back to NY in June. My FI and his family reside in LI and when we have children his mom will watch them when I go back to work. So for me it was a matter of economics. I miss my family and I hardly know anyone out here but I am hoping it will get better soon.
