Any dental people here? Update at bottom

I am going to an 'emergency' dental appoitment tomorrow.

I got my teeth cleaned an Sat. Since then, I have been in excruciating pain. The gum area around my bottom left wisdom tooth is on fire.

I have healthy teeth and gums, and no cavaties in that area. (I have one small cavity in another area that needs to be filled)

I know the hygenist said that since I had clean teeth already, she was going to do a 'level 2 scaling' since I 'could take it'

What do you think went wrong? The only thing I can guess is that maybe she cut my gums? There's no blood or anything....just severe pain

well, she did mention that she could tell I don't floss enough because I had some bleeding during the cleaning (to me, it seemed like A LOT more bleeding than I've ever had during a cleaning).

The gum around that area looks VERY inflamed now, but not red. It seems inflamed because before I went for the cleaning, it looked like my wisdom tooth was almost completely out- and I've never had a problem flossing in front or behind it.

Now, it looks like it's only 80% out because the gum behind the tooth is so inflamed that it's covering part of it.

I have to tell you- recovering from my tonsilectomy hurt a lot less than this pain.

I had that before and it sounds like the gum is infected. An antibiotic will help. It probably was related to the cleaning..Maybe a little cut got infected.

I always found that listerine helped when I had wisdom tooth pain...it cleans the area and kinda stings at first, but it always felt better after I used it....

So, he said that my gum was inflamed (he wouldn't confirm that the abrasive cleaning caused the inflamation). But, my TOP left wisdom tooth has an extra cusp. (molars/wisdom teeth look like 4 prongs, that one tooth has a 5th).

so, it was irritating the inflamed gum around the bottom left wisdom tooth.

He buffed down the 5th cusp and told me to clean the inflamed area with peroxide 4 times a day, especially after eating.

He said it should be better in a few days.

I totally think this was caused by that cleaning. It was like Texas Chainsaw Massacre in my mouth
