Any divers or snorklers out there?

Hi everyone! Just looking for some advice from the divers/snorklers out there...

We plan on doing some snorkling on our honeymoon-and may even try a resort course dive (tried it about 10 years ago and loved it). I have a mask and snorkle that I bought in the BVIs years ago, but I need to get for my FH now. I'd rather get him his own stuff...I'm just a little squeamish about renting especially a snorkle.

Does anyone have any recommends for dive shops, prefer in western Nassau or Queens? We're not looking for elaborate, performance gear, just basic mask, snorkle, mesh gear bags, watertight wallets.

We tried Sports Authority and Modells and they had mostly kids stuff.

Thanks!!

Re: Any divers or snorklers out there?

I am not sure about shops on the island. I actually came into the city to buy mine. I have a small face and could not fit into the ones they have on the boats in the caribbean and I know how you feel not wanting to use other people's masks etc. Modells or sports authority is not the best place to go because the packaged ones don't always fit right. You can do a search on yahoo for dive shops and go there, they will fit it better for you.

I went snorkeling for the first time in mexico and it is such a cool thing to do!!! Enjoy

Oooh..I have the same question. I actually saw some some in Sports Authority in NYC this weekend but they were pricey. FI and I remember after the summer last year they use to sell for $20...now they were all $50+. Why didn't we buy them then!?!

Ok I got mine from Modells in East Meadow and FH bought his on the island for $20 and his worked better than mine. Mine kept fogging up But my mom bought hers with me and hers worked fine.

Re: Any divers or snorklers out there?

FH bought me my maske & flippers from Sports Authority.
We took them to Aruba and they worked fine. Just get a good fit & spit in it enough to get a good seal and it shouldn't fog!
Sounds gross I know.

Re: Any divers or snorklers out there?

We have stuff in the house either from sports authority or modells.. we usually take it just to the pool and stuff.. I have never lugged all that stuff away with me..On an island you can always rent them.
If you think that you wont really get much use out of them.. its probably easier to just rent them from where you are.
