What do you do during spring when they are laying eggs like crazy and are at each other's throats? I gave them two nests, and they were fine for a while, but they started laying a lot of eggs. Now Cream is pecking Sugar and chasing her around the cage. It breaks my heart to see poor Sugar pecked and going bald. I took the nests out today and also put covers on the food bowls so they dont' try to lay eggs there. Any other suggestions to keep them happier?

Re: Any female finch owners out there?
We had gouldian finches, and have had three clutches of babies finches...yes, I've notice the aggression around this time of year...taking the nests out is a good idea...
Be sure you have cuttlebone, so no female becomes eggbound (can be lifethreatening).
You may want to seperate the finch who is getting picked on until the season is over.
