Re: Any Filipina brides out there?

another quick questions regarding sponsors

are you guys having them walk down the aisle for the ceremony and also when you introduce the bridal party at the RH...are you having them walk out as well?

I definitely am having them do both but just wanted to know where everyone stood with this

oh yea and of course their names will be listed in the program.....

WOW.. there are soo many filipino brides here and i didn't even know!!

i just got married almost a month ago.. our groomsmen wore barongs..we did the coin/veil/cord.. we had 4 sets of sponsors.. and i think that's it for the filipino traditions!..

good luck to all the brides out there!! if you want to check out how the barongs would look, check out my review under zpasigna...

bye girls!!!

Hey Alba....I went to see the florist and talked about them being apart of the ceremony...I will probably give the women corsages or a mini flower to hold and the men a boutinierre since they all will be apart of my wedding

my processional is as follows:

principal sponsors
veil/cord sponsors
BM/GM
ring bearer/arras carrier
MOH?
FG?
Me

I have question marks next to MOH and FG cause i don't remember who goes first. i'll have to check with my mom but i'm assuming this is right...

Okay..stupid question...veil/cord/coin sponsors are 3, right?

Then you have principal sponsors on top of that? How many?

I was thinking of having the BM and MOH do either thecord, veil or coins. ANyone else do that?

check back to my previous reply regarding sponsors

actually I will just copy and paste it

Hey Alba

I am Filipino marry Irish....Since my FH wasnt filipino I didnt want to have so many sponsors and what we call ninongs/ninangs(godfathers/godmothers)His side probably wont understand what is going on

some filipinos have so many of them....what I decided to do is those who I chose to be sponsors in my wedding party will be our ninongs and ninangs and will also have a role in the wedding by giving them either the chord, veil candle. I am picking a couple from my dad's side (my dad's sister and brother) and another side from my mom's (her sister and brother) and a couple from FH (mom's brother and dad's sister)

This was just easier and some filipinos like you said have so many...so instead of picking three couples to do the chord, veil and candle ceremony and then picking more couples to be your godparents....i decided to stick with the three couples as godparents and then giving them a role so they could be part of the ceremony...

my parents thought it was a great idea!!!

you basically would pick three women and three men to do

1) candle - the candle sponsors light two candles whcih the bride and groom use to light a single candle to symbolize the joining of the two families and GOd's light in their life (in most cases - regulary weddings have both mothers do this

Since my sponsors will be doing that i chose the moms to bring the gifts up instead so they had a role

2) Chord - the chord sponsors drape the yugal ( a decorative silk cord) in a figure sight shape over the bride and grooms shoulders. This symbolizes the infinite bond between the bride and groom

3) veil
- the veil sponsors place a white veil over the brides head and the grooms shoulders as a symbol of unity and togetheress- two clothed as one

I will be having my my cousin narrating this while this is going on so people are aware of the filipino wedding traditions

the giving of arrhae of coins is a filipino tradition where the groom gives the bride thirthreen coins or arrhae as a sign of his dedication to his wife's well being and the welfare of their future children.

now on top of that you can have as many prinicpal sponsors which act as ninongs and ninangs (godparents)

again i chose three couples as my godparents but also gave them the role for the chord, veil and candle

I believe you can do whatever you want...there is no written law on who you choose and how many

HTH

we're having our godmothers light our candles and then our moms are doing the presentation of the gifts.

we're buddying up 2 of my guy cousins with 2 of FH's female cousins to be the veil and cord sponsors.

I think she meant bringing up the 'gifts' in church : the wine, the water and the chalice with the hosts.
