If you are incorporating filinpino traditions where are you getting your stuff? does anyone know where I can get a chord and array of coins? are you getting passed down from a family member?

my mom ordered our veil and cord directly from a seamstress in manila. the arras is a family heirloom that has been used in all of our weddings. HTH!

Kumusta!

I would like to have lechon @my reception. Good thing - CLM offers 'roasted suckling pig' for the cocktail hour.

My shower is going to be a 'filipiniana luncheon'. So, we are having all types of filipino food. But, we are also offering non-FIlipino food for those who are not 'adventurous' w/ our type of cuisine.

HEY LADIES!!!

hi roxanne!!! its funny i was thinking of starting a thread asking if there are any other filipina brides out there. i only know roxanne!!!
wow, there's so many of us here!
FH want to have lechon for our wedding as well, but instead of the wedding we're going to have it on either the after party or rehearsal day. not sure yet..

Man, where were you guys when I was planning my wedding?

We didn't do anything traditional, except that DH, who is Puerto Rican wore a Barong.

your pictures came out great!!! I LOVE your dress

yeah gotcha - and we're not doing the unity candle.

plus we put a modern twist to things:

for the coin ceremony - thirteen of our friends are 'sponsors' and will bring up a coin that we picked up during our travels.

for the veil ceremony - our parents are the 'sponsors' doing this. symbolizing uniting our families...

here's more explanation of the changes...

CEREMONY DESCRIPTION

That sounds awesome!!!

Thanks!! this helps alot!

Fellow filipina here!!! I thought I was the only one!!! Yay us!!!

I'm marrying an italian so we have to incorporate some of his old world traditions as well. But we are definitely doing the veil/cord ceremony. What is the arras? Also no money dance for us either, not enough time at the reception.

No barongs for us, FH calls it the paper shirt . My dad will wear a traditional tux too.

I am Italian, marrying a Filipino. I am doing the veil, cord and coins too. His aunt is bringing them from the Philippines for us.

No Barongs for us though. He hates it and calls it the paper shirt too.

Are you ladies having sponsors? I could definitely use some help with the details of sponsors, colors, gowns...Thanks!

that's too funny! i changed my mind on the barongs last week and told my dad he could wear it. he was sulking so i caved in. my uncles are gonna wear there's too now. FH's family will be soooo confused when they see them!

we're doing sponsors but only on my side. some brides do alot of sponsors but i only have 2 sets, 1 from my moms side and 1 from my dads side just too please the filipinos. not too sure what you mean by colors, i'm just letting them wear whatever they want. FH's family wants a bunch of italian traditional songs played at the reception and there's some dance we have to do.

Re: Any Filipina brides out there?

My MIL wants a bunch of sponsors in there...I think she says that some weddings have about 5 couples..I think that's too much! I already have 10 couples in my bridal party.

She was asking me what colors the sponsors should wear..I told her wahtever they wanted, but I think she said that at the last wedding she went to the sponsors wore white...(I said No way! ).

I would really just like one couple from each side. Do you get the sponsors gifts too? What do you give them?

PS- Your dress is gorgeous!

Re: Any Filipina brides out there?

in the philippines there's no 'rule' about only the bride wears white. my aunt told me she wanted to wear a white gown to the wedding and i told her no way!!!!

i'm giving my veil and cord sponsors a bottle of wine as their gift. my principle sponsors aren't getting gifts.

thanks for the compliment on my dress! i get to pick it up on june 20th!!! so excited!!!!

Hey Alba

I am Filipino marry Irish....Since my FH wasnt filipino I didnt want to have so many sponsors and what we call ninongs/ninangs(godfathers/godmothers)His side probably wont understand what is going on

some filipinos have so many of them....what I decided to do is those who I chose to be sponsors in my wedding party will be our ninongs and ninangs and will also have a role in the wedding by giving them either the chord, veil candle. I am picking a couple from my dad's side (my dad's sister and brother) and another side from my mom's (her sister and brother) and a couple from FH (mom's brother and dad's sister)

This was just easier and some filipinos like you said have so many...so instead of picking three couples to do the chord, veil and candle ceremony and then picking more couples to be your godparents....i decided to stick with the three couples as godparents and then giving them a role so they could be part of the ceremony...

my parents thought it was a great idea!!!

as for colors...i am letting them wear whatever they want....I dont want them wearing white....That would only be me

HTH
