I've only been thinking about staying at a hotel after the reception but then it came aross to me that it could be a decent savings by going home with DH after the reception. The room will probally be 150 and upwards or possibly even more because the night before Im getting a suite for me and the bms and was planning on just keeping the same room for me and Dh for the next night. We are only going to be there for a couple of hours and then have to take a cab home the next morning which could be around 40-50 since its from Nassau to Queens.
Thing is- I want our wedding night to be somewhat special (even though well probally be exhausted anyway) and I just dont want it to be a killjoy by going home to our 'normal' bed.
What do you girls think? For all that I saved on things I wanted...it might be silly to spend 250+ on something that is not necessary but i dont know??

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
It's funny that this question was posted, when we began our planning I told FH that we have to go to a hotel for our 1st night, rather than just going home to our usual bed (we currently live together). His thoughts were no, you are going to be so exhausted and thought it was a little silly.
Now, I feel the complete opposite - it doesn't matter where we are, it's going to be very special as husband and wife, and especially being in our home on the night of our wedding will be even more special rather than being in a hotel room.
Also, I didn't realize that we are going to have to check out at 11 am. Which means we will have to be up early to pack and be out by that time. I know myself, I am going to be so tired and would rather be home in our bed and not have to worry about getting up early, I must rather sleep the next day.

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
Our reception ends late, so Fh and I have been going back and forth about this bc we dont really know what to do. One one hand, by the time we get to the hotel, we need to check out early the next day.... and if we go home, we'll prob regret it.
Also, we have OOT friends who are traveling a long way to be with us, we are thinking of staying at the hotel that night so that we can see them again before they leave to head back. We havent seen many of them in years, and I think its worth it to see them again and maybe have breakfast or something.

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
We started saying the same thing. It's a possibility that we might just go home since we have our own place. The place I was planning on booking is just over $300/night so I'm kind of up in the air about it now.

I would only stay at the hotel if you can get a late check out time - especially late for bride and groom. You're going to be exhausted and not want to get out of bed.

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
Our Reception is at the Fox Hollow and we are staying at the Inn next door. If the Inn wasn't a luxury hotel then we would either come into the City for the weekend or go home.
If you don't have late check-out it's probably not worth it because you're going to sleep in late.

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
All of FH's family is from OOT and a good amount of our friends are also, so we wanted to stay in the hotel with them, hang out at the hotel bar after the reception ends, and then have breakfast the next morning...

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
I'm moving to FL this summer to start med school, so FH and I will be living in FL when we get married. So we will have no choice but to stay in a hotel room the night of the wedding... but fortunately the Garden City Hotel gives us the penthouse suite for the night of the wedding so we got soooooo incredibly lucky!! The room is normally over $2K!!!

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
DH and i went home...it just made sense for us. I didnt want to have to get up early to be out of the hotel by check out time. We went home, made a list of our gifts, set everything up to be deposited in our account, hung up my dress and went to bed. We also had an awsm time just hanging out with my fam for a bit before we went to bed. This made the most sense for us because we left the following day on our honeymoon and i wanted to make sure everything was in order before we left. The following day we had a bbq with both immediate families and then left on our honeymoon.

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
We lived togeather and I wanted to do a hotel and my FH talked me out of it saying why waste the money. In the end, he was right. I was soooooooo glad to be in my own bed! You will literally pass out the moment your head hits the pillow!!!!!
Since I had stayed at my mom's house the night before, FH surprised me with a bottle of champagne chilling in an ice bucket next to the bed (which we didn't drink, LOL) and a rose petal trail from the door to the bedroom. In the morning he quietly got out of bed and maid me breakfast (well, lunch LOL) in bed. It was great and I am so glad we went home!!!

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
My dh and i went home after ours. We didn't really want to spend the extra money. We weren't living together so that was our first night in our home together and it was still just as special. Plus, we had family coming over the netx day to open gifts and it was just easier for us that way.

we dont live together, so our wedding night will be the first night we spent in our house.... but i know fsil is staying in a hotel, and i think thats what i would do too if i already lived with fh, its makes it a little different
Same here! I don't know about anyone else but after my wedding I don't want to go to no bar or party...I want to get home

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
considering that me & DH did not live together before the wedding (and that I was still living with my parents) going home was NOT an option. lol. (plus the house that we were moving into was in Colorado, not New York - so there would be no place to go). BUT if you both live together in your own place, then maybe it's worth saving the extra money. I would at least make it special though - like have some chocolate covered strawberries available and maybe some candles, music, wine and rose pedals. I feel like I'd need SOMETHING, but maybe that's just me.
Honestly though, having a nice suite to go to after the reception was really special for us. I did enjoy being in a nice room and feeling like royalty the rest of the night. Plus it had a King Size bed and some other fun aspects. So it was worth it to us to have that room. But I think if the cost is too much, then just skip it. It's not the most important thing, but like I said above - if you CAN afford it, then it certainly IS worth it to keep that special day & night going as long as possible

Re: Any girls go home after reception?
We are definitely staying at the hotel too. Do you have a lot of out of towners?? Some hotels will give you a free room if you book a bunch of rooms there. I am hoping for that option
