Any Girls in School?

Original post by Pacie

I'm just wondering if there are any girls currently in school? Are you graduating before or after your wedding? If before what are your plans (if any) regarding looking for a new job? I graduate from my MA program in May and I'm not sure if I should start looking for a job soon as i graduate or wait till after the wedding? I'm just concerned about not having vacation time for the honeymoon.

School is actually the major reason why I'm getting married in 2012 rather than 2011. My wedding is May 2012 and I'll finish my PhD by Sept 2012 (depending on how long it takes me to write my thesis). I'll definitely be looking for a job before the wedding. I think it depends on how the hiring cycle works in your industry though.

are you planning on taking your FH's name? i am in a doctoral program and will finish up around the time of my wedding and it is the biggest fiasco trying to figure out the name thing. I always thought i would take my husband's name when i got married and really want to in the personal side of my life, but am unsure about what to do professionally bc i will be published before i am married... are you having any similar dillemas?

Oh boy, that's a sticky issue for us. FH has any number of reasons for why he wants me to take his name, and I'm not opposed to taking his name socially... but I'm completely undecided professionally. I should also be published before the wedding. Chanwich and I have commiserated about this before.

Have you published yet? I know that, at least in chemistry, you can publish in whatever name you want. So theoretically I could publish with FH's last name before the wedding if I wanted to. Somehow that option only seems to complicate my decision.

What are you getting your degree in?

ya my FH wants me to be Hennessy socially and professionally. my parents want me to be Swenson professionally and Hennessy socially... so i thought about hyphenating my name for professional purposes but my supervisor told me how uch she regrets hypenating her name because it confuses everyone!

i don't know how i would feel publishing in my FH's name before actually getting married since it won't legally be my name yet....

i am getting my degree in clinical psychology... under 12 months to go!!! wooohoo

YES!! Im in law school, part time evenings and work full time, and it has been stressful to say the least. I was looking for a new job at a law firm since currently im at a non-profit, but i put those plans on hold because i just made 3 years at my current job and get like 20 days vacay and 4 personal days...im taking a trip in November and then have my wedding in June, so i decided to hold off for a new job until AFTER the wedding since i want to take at least two weeks off when the time comes. I also have alot going on, work, school, buying a home AND a wedding so i figured it would be waaaay too much stress to throw a new job into the mix as well...i still have two more years to go so i figure i have time

I am in school-have been for 7 years....hopefully will be graduating Spring 2013 hopefully. If all goes according to plan, I will be starting a PA program Aug 2011- 2 months before my wedding. I will not be able to take a honeymoon until we have our winter break- so FH and I plan on a January HM!

I'm graduating in December--I nagged my boyfriend to propose FOREVER, but now I'm glad he waited so I can only focus on the wedding and not school too. I decided I would plan the major things (venue, church, photog, and band) now and wait till I had the time to enjoy the planning of everything else in December. For me, doing both would have taken the fun out of planning slightly--but sometimes, I know you don't have a choice =( Hope evething works out!!

I'm going for my masters in teaching right now. I will be getting it in May (finally!!) and the wedding is in July so perfect timing. Luckily with teaching there is no work during the summer....but I definitely worry about the job hunt aspect as the new year starts in Sept. and if we want to purchase a home I need a job! I feel all your pain! I LOVE planning and am so lucky but how overwhelmed are you at times? Especially for us student teachers.

Good luck to everyone!! :)

Im getting my bachlors degree now but will not graduate until after my wedding. I graduated last year with my RN but stayed at my job I was working as a LPN knowing I get 3 weeks vacation where I am now so I dont plan on looking until after for a new job.

I have a full time job and I go to school for my MBA part time while planning a wedding! lol. You can get a full time job or start with a part time job. There's also temp positions, so you absolutely have choices. I'm sure it'll work out.

Re: Any Girls in School?

I am in school now. At the rate I'm going it looks like I will be finishing school the month of my wedding. This will totally suck if that is the case.

If I decide to work my butt off I can get out earlier, BUT it is hard to work full-time, part-time, plan a wedding AND have a life on top of that.

It will also interfere with us trying to have kids. I want to be sure i have a job before trying to have kids. We want a honeymoon baby but only if I have a stable job. I will not go on job interviews with a pregnant belly.

So life is stressful bc of school!
