Any good decorators?? I need help!

I thought I finally found the couch of my dreams! But, nope. Still too big. My living room is very small and the couches out there r just soooo big that its driving me nuts! I have one wall that is about 9 ft 8 inches and another wall that is about 7 ft 9 inches. But the thing is unless I get a couch that is only 62 inches wide, I cant fit anything on the other wall. Loveseats are so big and the depth of all the couches I have seen just will take up the entire center if the living room, which there isnt a lot of now.

So now we are thinking of geting a couch thats about maybe 72 inches wide and either one of those double chairs or recliners for the other wall. I think our best bet is a recliner but Im not sure. Im going bonkers! Im not good at this at all and I dont know where to start looking for smaller couches. We went to levitz and they were soooooooo big! Can you ladies suggest any furniture places? Any places online I could look as well??

Im also into the nautical or country look for the living room..nothing too victorian (I know those couches are smaller.)

Please help!

Have you looked in IKEA? They seem to cater to people with small living spaces.

Have you tried Macys? Many of there sets seems to come with the option of a full couch or an apartment couch. They had some nice new sets that were recently made available/put on display.

I second Macy's...we bought our sofa at the one in Carle Place - there's an outlet inthe same building as well.

I'm not a fan of recliners - I like club chairs better...you might want to reconsider a recliner in a small space b/c you have to allow room 'tween the wall and the recliner in order to recline.

Two smaller sofas could work nice...or an oversized chair instead of one of the sofas (it's a chair & a half - smaller than a love seat, larger than a chair).

I had a major problem when I bough my furniture. At the time, we were in a 1BR apartment. They actually had to bring the furniture up to my 2nd floor apt. up over our balcony. It took up most of our livingroom. We got it a Seamans and, like Levitz, most of their furniture is huge. I would definitely check out Ikea. They have small to medium-sized couches, loveseats and chairs.

More info please....
How much seating are you trying to get in the room?
Is this your main living/lounging space?
What is the shape of the room?
Does another room open into this room?

I was trying to get a full sized sofa and a loveseat in this room. The wall for the big couch is my biggest wall and the other wall is the second biggest. There are a lot of cutouts in the room which makes it hard. Its a very small space. The kitchen is on one side...and the bedroom is on the other.

This is the main living room so i wanted enough seating for everyone. Ill try take a pic of the room now..lets see how far my cam goes..its on a cord lol

We ended up doing a corner sectional so we could have a lot of seating space and room to stretch out and relax too. I think our room is a bit bigger than yours, but with sectionals you have the option to adjust size. The furniturelandsouth.com site has a section where you can map out your room size and place furniture pieces and adjust their size and placement so you get a good idea of how the furniture will fit. Here's our corner sectional.

This isn't a sleeper, but they did have that option. The manufacturer is Hickory Hill, a division of Norwalk Furniture. I got mine at Bare Boards in Bohemia. They carry Hickory Hill at Seamans too I think. Also Stanley furniture in Patchogue. There are lots of fabric options to mix and match. This is a 3-section unit, a corner unit and a 2-section unit. You can mix and match to fit your room.

Re: Any good decorators?? I need help!

The long side - a 3-section plus the corner, is almost 10 feet - it was about 118 inches. The 2-section plus corner was 92 inches - a little over 7 and a half feet.

They offer 4 grades of fabric (I think this was grade 2 - it's based on the fibers and complexity - brocades were more $$) and the prices vary depending on your choice. Each section is priced individually. We got some other things too, so I don't recall the sofa price specifically, but I think the various units were in the $600 - $800 range each - sleepers probably bump the price. I would think you're looking at $1500 - $2000 range. I think Bare Boards offered free delivery in Suffolk and Nassau - they said 6-8 weeks but it came in about 3 weeks.

Re: Any good decorators?? I need help!

If you can fit it a sectional will definately offer you the most seating. Some alternatives would be
sofa and oversized chair
or how about a sofa and a bench seat
if you look at contemporary or transitional style furniture you will some find slimer sytles. With all the fabric options you will can still get your country/nautical look.
