You could check out the Fernwood and Treetop villas in the Poconos (maybe 3 hours away? not even.. I don't remember exactly.. but it wasn't super far away). I've been there a bunch of times.. and we love it! I never stayed in the hotel... always stayed in a villa. They have 3 floor villas and 2 floor ones. There is a full kitchen, living room, dining room, and bedroom(s), sometimes there's a loft area too. Also there's always a fireplace and usually little balconies as well. There is snow tubing and skiing and snowboarding nearby.
They may try to get you to stay for a seminar about purchasing time share... for a discount.. but you can just say no to that and pay full price; it's not that expensive at all!
I HIGHLY recommend this place... anyone who I've brought with me there (we go with friends all the time)... always ends up coming back.
Check out their website. If you have any problems finding it, let me know and I will find it for you.

Research Vermont at either Mt Snow or Haystack Mtn..not sure what lodges are there but it is soo gorgeous up tin Vermont.

Portland Maine is really cute too, not sure what the skiing is like but the little city (It resembles more of a Huntington or Port Jeff) is really fun and the scenery is breathtaking.

Check out Newport, RI...no skiing, but wintery New England Charm, Bed and Breakfasts, cozy restaurants...love it there.

RI is awesome! do they still have the vanderbilt mansions that you can tour out there? I love those mansions! so beautiful!
