Any good tips for learning to cook?

Any good tips for trying to ease my way into the fine art of cooking? If there is a step before a beginner that is where I would be. I really need to learn at least for the sake of our future children. My idea of cooking is when I decide to put my leftover pizza in the oven instead of the microwave (and I am not kidding). Cooking seems so intimidating and annoying to me; not to mention time consuming. (I know that sounds silly). Any tips?

Re: Any good tips for learning to cook?

Take a class at The Institue of Culinary Education (ICE). It's located at 23rd & 5th and they offer tons of classes.

My advice though, just enjoy it. Don't worry about creating a masterpeice - always experiment with different levels of flavor - add more garlic, put less pepper, add a green pepper to a dish if you think you might like it. It's surprisingly easy to make a meal.

Re: Any good tips for learning to cook?

Start off easy, with stuff you cant mess up. hamburger helper, premade meatballs, frozen ravioli. The more you feel comfortable with that, you'll venture on your own. Good luck!!

Re: Any good tips for learning to cook?

Start with basic dishes and practice. Buy some cookbooks are try a dish or 2 each week. I find that pasta and some chicken dishes are very easy. You could try something like chicken cutlets and add in some pasta with butter and parm. cheese.

Practice makes perfect.

Re: Any good tips for learning to cook?

Thanx ladies for the good tips. I have a good idea of how to cook but have a hard time actually doing it (make sense?) My two biggest issues: long work hours and the fear of sending someone to a hospital.
