Any gyms that don't rip you off?

What are the most reasonably priced gyms out there to join? Dh was looking around. He wanted to join LA Fitness but he wanted to put a large sum down, then pay a smaller monthly, but they won't do that for you.

Gold's doens't seem to be as bad as equinox and NYSC. Sometimes the smaller gyms ahve veen better prices. Also for women, curves and ladies workout express are pretty good at only $40 per month, and there ARE some that allow men!

I saw an ad for Suffolk Community College's gym, for membership for the public. Try that or Nassau CC or your local college.

Lucille Roberts - but they can be a bit run down (and you have to bring your own towel! I hate that...)

i belong to la fitness i put like 200$ down and then its like 50$ a month. good deal to me. i work in the city and all the good gyms are all 80$ and up. so i go back to the island to work out. it is new and has a pool and sauna. i love it there and i never have to wait for a machine. i would rather do that then belong to a smaller gym where i have to wait forever and pay less.

weigh your options....

good luck

I go to NYSC. I can't say that they are cheaper because that would just be a lie, but I do think they are worth the extra money. I paid around $200 for my membership fee and $80 a month. I did not have to sign a contract for x amount of years which I think a lot of the cheaper gyms require. I have access to any NYSC in NYC and in other cities and states. When I was on tour that was nice. I think that how often you use the gym also plays into what you are willing to pay. I spend about 12-15 hrs a week at the gym so I definately feel like I get my money's worth.

The gym I go too is what I call a no frills. The machines are great but its not fancy. But they do not have any classes there or a pool. How important is that to you? The price is very good though. It's in College Point (is that too far?)
