Any info on Bay Shore

We want to be close to my parents who now live out there, but we don't know the area too well. Can anyone give me some info on the 'better' parts (but will not have us in debt up to our ears) to buy a home??

TIA!!

Brightwaters = alot of money (west of 5th ave/south of sunrise)

Brightwater farms = fair price/good area (south of SSP, North of Sunrise, West of 5th ave) Some blocks arent the best but you will find you most bang for your buck.

If you go north of SSP, you will be in bay shore but brentwood schools. Brentwood schools is not favorable (imo)

Houses south on 5th ave i think are up there in price. If you are lucky enough, LIHA is having a lottery on some houses on 3rd ave as they are trying to bring back the area.

You can be close to bay shore by looking in Islip or West Islip as they boarder Bay Shore on both sides. Both have good school and 'some' reasonable prices.

DH and I live in Bayshore and we love it!! We live right off 5th Avenue. We walk to Main Street ALL the time! There is a Townhouse liker our for sale around the block from us. Here is the link

Im not sure if its what you are looking for. We are 2 blocks from the train too. We hear the whistle, but we barely hear it anymore because we are used to it. There are no fees either

I think there are some really nice areas of Bay Shore .. some of which are affordable .. considering this market.

Hop in the car and go for a drive a few afternoons, maybe check out the same areas over a few days. Try to get a feel for the areas you might be interested in .. to find out if you get that 'home' feeling.

I used to live near there, but was not a fan of Bay Shore. I would try Islip, Islip Terrace, East Islip. I think those school districts are better than Bay Shore too. My friends who grew up in Brightwaters all went to either private or parochial school, or their parents paid for them to go to Islip since they did not want them in Bay Shore schools.
