ANY INFO ON DJ's

Hi Guys, once again I need your advice. I want to start looking into dj's. I want to get one that does the photos on projection screen (I don't know what it's called) and also, maybe a dj who also, has a few musicians to accompany him. Any suggestions, will be greatly appreciated. As are ones to stay away from.

Get in Tune does everything you are looking for. A friend of mine is using Glen for her wedding next year and speaks very highly of him! A lot of brides on this board are using/have used them as well...

I think Body Rock does the projection screen with your photos.

I just booked with Tommy Tunes and they have all those extras, like the photo shows in the background and musicians to accompany the dj's. They are a little more expensive then the rest, but they have a really good reputation.

Thanks so much - do you guys have any ideas on how much they charge?

Dancejock also does the photo screens. I think it was $500 extra which included the screens, and the extra man to go around and take digital photos during the wedding to put on the screen during the reception.

We used Dancejock and they kept the affair going- people were dancing all night. We didnt get the projection screens however they offer them (everything is ala carte - basic package I think was 1200 and then you add services on like screens or singer.)

We did however get a steel drum band for cocktail hr & singer during dinner through them. We paid 2700 for DJ, MC, and 2 singers & 4 man steel drum band. http://www.dancejock.com

Re: ANY INFO ON DJ's

I went to the Bridal Expo yesterday at the Huntington Hilton. They had two DJ companies perform..Dr. Dance Entertainment and Starlight. I had seen Dr. Dance at a friend's wedding at John Anthony's on Sept 6th and I thought they were great. I was very excited when I found out that they were also at the showcase yesterday. They did a show with the video screens and live percussion, sax player, DJ, MC, singer, dancers...the whole 9 yards. They were great they got the audience to interact and dance with the dancers and everything! I also wanted a video montage and live music b/c my parents want a band but I want a DJ/MC. All the live elements along with the DJ give it that live feel so it will make both myself and my parents happy. I spoke with a man named Dennis and he was so helpful. He worked out a price for me right there and with DJ/MC, sax, percussion, singer, video montage, and lighting it came to be around $3500. I thought that this was an excellent price for everything that was included. I am planning a meeting with him so hopefully everything will work out...I will be very excited if it does b/c it will be one less thing to worry about. If you need any information I noticed that they post on the board also they are under disc jockeys. Hope I was of some help, Goodluck!
**Do you girls think it is too early to book a DJ for a wedding in September of 2004?

Re: ANY INFO ON DJ's

I want to try to book my dj by the end of the year. I heard that it's best to book early because then you'll get 2002's rates instead of 2004's. I don't know how true that is, but, I guess it can't hurt right? lol

I would definitely book as soon as possible. We booked 15 months in advance and already 4 out of the 7 MC's were booked!!! Can you believe it?? LI Brides are way too organized

Music by Michael (a vendor on this site) does the photo montages. He'll be doing our wedding in Jan 2004.

We booked all of our vendors except florist for 2004, and we saved a lot of money that way.

Re: ANY INFO ON DJ's

JN2004- do you mind telling me how much you got quoted for? You can send a forum to me as well.
I went to a few dj's and have an appointment Thurs. with Burke Entertainment (on whom I can't seem to find any feedback on) Needless to say, I'm sketchy about them.
I went to Spin Around Sound- was impressed but they're really pricy. Today I also read that someone on the board was having a hard time getting a call back from them now that they're booked, so- they're off my list as well.
I've gone to Absolute Entertainment - very impressive as well. They're much more reasonable in price for just a dj and an mc.
I sent an e-mail to Get in Tune, and they were slightly higher, but reasonable.
It's hard for me to have a lot appointments on LI. right now, so unless I really think it's worth it, I don't want to go on the appointment. (Does that make any sense?)

I also hear that Music by Michael is really good- didn't make an appointment though.

We had Tommy Tunes for our wedding and LOVED them. We used Joe as our MC, and he was GREAT!!!! He is a lot of fun to work with as well. They offer a lot of packages. If you go to there website on here, they have a list of what they offer.

Re: ANY INFO ON DJ's

We used Hart to Hart. We had an MC (Pierre - who was fabulous) and a DJ. They played music for our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception with give aways. We paid about $1800. At first I thought it was a lot of money but when I realized that I didn't pay ceremony & cocktail hour musicians I figured it was a good deal.

The business office was difficult to deal with at first (somewhat consdescending and lax about contact but when I started working with Pierre I was much more comfortable - he was extremely professional and a pleasure to deal with!

I am basically recommending Pierre more then the company but he was worth it

Re: ANY INFO ON DJ's

We looked into Legrand entertainment. The are located in westchester and have all that you are looking for. I beleive the cost was around $3500 but you get the DJ/MC plus backup singers and percussionist. They also have a big screen that displays the recetion for you and tapes it. We ddin't go with them because we were looking for something a bit less expensive but their presentation was great.
