Any info on Spirit Airlines??

I have a wedding to go to in Florida in December and have been finding good fares from Spirit Airlines but I've never flown on it. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with it??

Thanks!

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

My husband and I met 2 pilots when we went on our Honeymoon in the Bahamas. They said Spirit Airlines is a really good airline. It has been around for a while, just not on the east coast.

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

I have flown Spirit several times to Florida and never had a problem. I think they fly out of LGA but there are ALWAYS delays there. Did you check out Jet Blue's prices? They fly out of JFK. They are a great airline and they fly to Florida, you can watch tv - it is in the seat in front of you. It helps the flight go faster which helps me because I really don't like flying.

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

My cousin used to fly them to Florida all the time with no problems until they charged her for excess luggage. She had one suitcase that weighed less then 70pounds (the limit) but they charged her because on the way home they said it has to be in two suit cases She was not charged on the original flight and their baggage allowance did not state this policy.

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

I had a bad experience flying Spirit out of LGA to Ft. Lauderdale about two years ago.

We checked in for our 2 or 3PM flight, arrived at the gate and waited, waited, waited. Finally a gate person made an announcement that the inbound plane that we would be taking to FL was delayed. A half hour later, same announcement. And so on and so on til about 9 PM. Then the people at the gate just disappeared.

At around 11PM, the inbound flight landed. At that time, the gate people came back and made an announcement that the crew had 'timed out'...worked too many hours to continue flying. They said they were trying to get a new crew together.

At about 12:30AM, they announced the flight was cancelled, told us to come back the next day for 3PM flight.

The next day, the 3PM flight was delayed.

We did get a free flight out of it, but after that we swore no more Spirit ever again. From what I've heard, Spirit does not own any runway space at LGA and this causes lots of delays.

For what it's worth, my family has used Spirit without any problems.

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

Thanks for the info!! I think we're going to go with Delta. Since I'm going for a wedding, I have no time for delays or cancellations. Thanks again

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

I hated Spirit. I flew them to San Juan on business. Miserable. They gave my boarding pass out to the wrong person, the flights were delayed, the flight attendants were rude and there was less than no leg room in the seats. I fly a lot for work and I would definitely say Delta is worth the extra money.

Re: Any info on Spirit Airlines??

I fly Orlando (MCO) to LGA alllll the time (even more so now planning a wedding there) I have to say I will swear up and down about delta, I have never had a problem that was the airlines fault and I have gotten really good rates (I am flying up in 3 weeks for a total price of 118) I love delta so much that FH and I used my frequent flyer miles to get free honeymoon tickets! Go with delta it is your best bet!
