Use a check (or credit card)...it's your only proof of payment. Think of it as a reciept...God forbid you need to take legal action in the future, but cash can get 'lost'. Who cares what he 'prefers'...you have to do what's good for you!!! ...as with all vendors, not just your DJ.

words of advice - don't pay cash
You might want to consider what his attire will be for the wedding, and if ceremony and/or cocktail hour music is provided. Also, do you have to provide him with a meal and does he take a break?
