Any nontraditional brides???

Any LI girls out there planning to have a 'different' type of wedding? Whether it be a nontraditional place, dress, theme, etc.

I love nontraditional, so I am curious.

Re: Any nontraditional brides???

We are

We booked the Swan Club because I didn't want to deal with the headache of booking a raw space, renting tables and chairs, finding an outside caterer, etc. It's easier to have it all in one spot with a well-oiled machine running the show.

I'm Irish-American and FH is Bengali-American. We're going to wear traditional American wedding attire for the ceremony, and then change into Indian attire for the reception.

I'm definitely taking photos of me in my gown while wearing my Doc Martens. I love them too much.

We're both vegetarians and did not want to compromise our ethical beliefs for our special day. We also didn't want to compromise our taste buds. Big reason why we booked Swan Club - they've done veggie weddings before.

We're both musicians - FH moreso - and our guest book is actually going to be an acoustic guitar that people will 'autograph'. This is an idea another 2010 bride came up with for me, so I can't take the credit for it (thanks, Barb! )
We also might sprinkle guitar pics on the tables instead of flower petals.

We're eco-concious, so we're limiting the amount of cut flowers that we're using. Our centerpieces will be either paper flowers (I'm making some today...wish me luck), soy-based candles, or potted plants in cute pots that people can take home with them.

Our colors are orange and grass green, which is not something I've really seen done before.

I'm having a mehndi party (henna) the day before the wedding for all the girls. That's traditional in Indian culture though.

I'm trying to work it into the guest list to be able to invite a couple of LIW-ers We'll see...because his mom wants to invite the entire nation of Bangladesh...and then takes it back and decides she doesn't want to invite anyone. Argh!

I am not doing flower centerpieces and they are eco friendly (I guess).
Wearing totally different second dress that I changed myself.
Wearing boots with my dress too!
No bridal party.
I am going to sing to my FH
I saw the guitar pics and wish I had gotten those!

I'm really excited reading your posts!

My favorite blogs are intimateweddings, apracticalwedding and 2000dollarwedding.

They have some really unique and creative ideas, and I love the reminders of what weddings are really about without getting caught up in all the insignificant details.
