Re: any nurses out there?
Wow, I knew a few people who got out of the Suffolk program and all had a few offers. Where did you get out of? Did you get any experience working in other hospitals when you were doing your classes? Most of my nurse friends work at Stony Brook, but that may be far if you live in Nassau. Stony Brook seems to always be hiring, but I think mostly Suffolk students who did clinical labs there while in their programs.

Do you want to work in a hospital of skilled nursing facility. Nursing homes are always hiring and have pretty flexible shifts. Good Luck.

Re: any nurses out there?
When my sister first got er job over 5 years ago, she started as a float working PT on a weird shift. Now she works nights in the ER. I think you just have to kind of take what they give you to get your foot in the door.
I was actually going to post something similar, my sister's hspital is no longer going to particpate in the union, so I think she's going to look for another job. Does anyone know which LI hospitals have 1199?

Re: any nurses out there?
Winthrop hospital in Mineola is always hiring new grads but you'll most likely have to work nights at first which is 7p-7a (we do 12hrs shifts 3x/week with a 4th shift once a month) There are plenty of nursing jobs you just have to shop around. Good luck!
ETA: are you and LPN or an RN? If your an LPN there tend to me more job openings in nursing homes then in hospitals. Most hospitals prefer and LPN w/experience.

Re: any nurses out there?
I have a few more classes to take in order to get my RN and I am hoping to work in the ICU at Huntington Hispital. I heard they are always hiring and have a 3- 12 hr shift week, with every 4th week a 4th tour. This is what I want before I make it up to the L&D floor. Huntington starts at $78,000, right out of school.
