Any one ever...

Any one ever...

... gone on 'The Knot' boards? So different! I get emails from them all the time about all different things, including 'hot topics' on the boards. So I go on and... it's just weird to see what weddings and engagements are like all over the country.

Things I have heard of before and rarely see here like 'My engagement ring is a promise ring' 'Mine is made of sapphire' 'Mine center stone is actually 4+ smaller diamonds' 'We had a cash bar' 'we served only wine and beer' 'I wrote out my addresses by hand myself' 'I'm wearing my moms dress from 30+ years ago'

Not that any of this is BAD per say, but it just makes me realize how over board weddings are here compared to everywhere else! I think if I got married in Oklahoma it would be soo much cheaper!!! Hmmm... is a wedding in Nebraska considered a 'destination wedding?'

I wonder if these girls have GTG?

Weddings only need to be overboard here if you want them to be.

NYC/LI/NJ has different 'standards' when it comes to weddings, but by no means do you need to live up to them.

I don't post on The Knot; their boards are confusing and disorganized, and the overall vibe is just a little weird.

I do post on offbeatbride.com's community...which is hella cool. Lots of original ideas over there.

Again, I'm from Michigan - things are done incredibly different there.

I am the mod for the LI Board- or was I should say! It s*cks which is why I tried to become Mod so I could get people posting more with surveys and 'Knottie of the day' or 'Letter of the day'. A few of them were really good! But people post more over here I guess. I can't blame them. Now they changed the format of the boards so I can't even log in at work, so you can see how good of a moderator I am.

ETA: One of my favorite weekly things were 'Flame Free Wednesdays'. Every knottie got to post a confession and nobody could retort. But if someone posted a really bad confession, nobody followed the second rule. Led to a lot of but boy was it entertaining!
