Ok, I know I am ridiculous, but I am so excited to go back!! I miss working. Plus, when we go back on Monday, I only have to work for 22 days and then I am off for 3 !/2 weeks for my wedding and honeymoon.

I do not want to go back at all. I brought so many things home to work on and it is still sitting in my bag on the floor!

I can not call in sick once for the rest of the year because I already used all my alloted 10 days for my honeymoon so this is going to be a long rest of the year!

I am a little depressed, but also a bit restless at home. I do miss my students, so it will be nice getting back!

29 days until Feb. break - thats not too bad... also don't forge Martin Luther King day at least its a three day weekend in two weeks. How do people have only a few weeks vacation? I wouldn't last

I really don't want to go back, I started my plans last Friday and still haven't finished. I also brought home a ton of things to do and they just sit in my bag on the floor

Do you know what's going to be sad? By Tuesday, it will feel like we never had a vacation!

My school bag is still in my car!!! I guess I should go get it and plan. This vacation went so fast. But, don't forget about our three day weekend in January for Martin Luther King.

I say that all the time!! The funny thing is we have a lot of vacations and it's still not enough. You know what's funny....how many times did you think of work during this vacation? I thought about it like 90% of the time. That's the advantage of other jobs....when my fiance comes home, work is 100% off of his mind!!!

I just got back from working in my classroom. I went in to do the filing I never seem to be able to get done during the day.

Don't wait that long. My district starts calling in applicants to do a writing sample in early February.

Good luck!

What does the writing sample consist of???

(will be looking for a teaching job the middle of next year)

Re: any other depressed teachers out there?

the one I took for my district had two parts:

I am SS teacher and I am sure they have different subject questions:

1. which historian has inspired me most (something to that effect)

2. how would a implement the new regents standards (again something like that)

others I had were about civics or I was given a quote and I had to reflect on that...again all relating to my subject and grade level

In my district, it's 2 questions about how you would teach or respond to a certain situation.
I think one of the questions I had to answer was something like if I could teach a thematic unit to any grade in any subject area, what would I teach and how would I do it.

Grammar, spelling and content all count equally, as well as the ability to form a well thought out response with a good intro and conclusion. I've since sat on interviewing committees, so I have a pretty good insight as to what interviewers are looking for, and I can tell you that anyone who doesn't finish both essays is immediately excluded.

Thanks Yabbo and JennRenee. I SOOOOOO dread interviewing. I alwyas clam up and forget EVERYTHING I know

How long do you have to write the essays and how long do they have to be?

I don't remember exactly how long you have. It's either 1.5 or 2 hours.

The essays have to be long enough to answer the question. Some people do it well in a page, others in 3 or 4 pages.

Don't get all worked up over interviewing... when the time comes I'm sure you'll do FINE!
