I'm trying out the gel manicure to see if I like it for my wedding bc I was debating whether or not if I wanted to do the forever french tips- short.. bUT I GOTTA say im loving this gel manicure its light on my nails and I did a ton of housework yesterday no chip.. Supposedly lasts two weeks lets hope!!

I love the gel manis...but I only do them twice in a row, then let my nails breathe. It will still deteriorate your nails, so just watch out!

I saw this at the nail salon yesterday, but my cheap *** didn't want to pay more than a regular manicure so I didn't get it lol. Good to know it does what it's suppose to!

Which one did you get? The regular gel or the shellac UV gel one? I did the shellac and it lasted the entire 3 weeks until I got them re done, no chips anywhere. Taking the polish off is another story though...

i love it its a nice refresher from my acrylics. It does last about 2 weeks. Mine is starting to chip and I got them done the week before Xmas.

well the only reason i did it was because I got a gift cert for Christmas. I'm not sure which one i got but its a thin layer i don't feel it on my nails so we will see. I guess time will tell. Its about $25.00 at the place I went to. i hate getting manicures bc you pay 10.00 and then they chip that day...

I get the permanent french manicure with gel and I love it. It lasts for 3 weeks, doesn't chip, and looks really pretty :)

Yea, taking them off is TERRIBLE. I had the UV gel on my nails for about 4 months and they RUINED my nails. That being said, I'm totally putting it on for the wedding/honeymoon. I love how long it lasts!!

I think the UV gel that is used for permanent french manicures is a little different than the OPI axxium or CND shellac gel polishes...they need to file a lot more of the natural nail away for the traditional UV gel. For Axxium and CND, they are only supposed to file enough of the nail to rough it up a little. CND goes on thinner and looks less like gel polish and more like regular polish, I think. I also read that it is supposed to be better for your nails than Axxium, because it is a hybrid polish/gel instead of purely a gel.
(can you tell that I looked into this a lot??)
I never had any problem taking off Axxium or CND.

I only use OPI gel. I live for it. it doesnt destroy my nails, and i dont plan on ever going back to reg polish so i dont really care if it does lol .
It lasts me 2-21/2 weeks no chips. you dont know jacques is my shiiiiiiit.

I find it really depends on the salon doing the UV color gel nails. I like them much better than a regular mani, as you can reach for your keys without any additional drying time after they are cured.
I got them done at one place, and they lasted over 3 weeks with no chips and smudges. The other place that I got them done chipped and smudged within a week.

i love the OPI gel mani! I will never get another manicure again...it literally lasts 2-3 weeks without chipping and I work in a hospital
if you go to the right salon, it shouldn't damage your nails
they shouldn't be filing down your nail, just roughing it a tiny bit
and make sure when they take it off that you soak it off..do not allow them to file your nail down or use the electric file, that is how you ruin the nail
it will take a good 15 minutes for the gel to soak off but do it...the gel should literally just fall off your nail no filing! file the top layer of polish just a bit before you soak, it will speed up the process, so the acetone can seep in.

I was obsessed with the OPI gels for MONTHS! Now I'm paying for it!! My nails are little stubs and are constantly peeling back and breaking so low! My one pinky nail is so thin now that it actually BURNS when I put polish on! Definitely take the advice of giving your nails a rest!! Luckily I have 4 1/2 months to get my nails back into shape!!

I've heard the gel dries darker than a regular manicure... did anyone else notice this? I normally just ask for a white on white french if I have a special occasion but I'm afraid it will come out differently with a gel manicure.
