Re: Any over 30 brides???

I turned 32 the week after my wedding, and my husband is 31. We didn't do the garter or bouquet toss either. I presented the bouquet to my grandmother. In a way I do wish I'd gotten married earlier in life so that I could have been a younger mom, BUT then I remind myself that my husband was so worth waiting for and I would never have wanted to miss out having him be the one!

Re: Any over 30 brides???

Me - 34
DH - 30

We didnt announce our bridal party but we were announced in ourselves but with a bagpiper not the DJ playing music. We just felt that our bridal party weren't into that 'dancing into the room' sort of thing - one girl was 6 mos pregnant and two of the GM's were from Ireland where they don't do that sort of thing and we figured better off not making anyone do something they'd rather not.

But we did the rest - there were enough single women there that wanted to do the bouquet toss and men for the garter toss. Plus we could tell with the crowd no one felt embarassed to go up on the floor - anyone that didn't, didn't and there were still 10-15 people up there for each toss. We also did the cake cutting but it wasn't a big hoopla thing where it was in the middle of the room - we cut it by our dais and they played 'How Sweet it is' by James Taylor so it was a mellow song.

I just never met anyone in my 20's I was that interested in dating for a long period of time. DH made a big impression on me when we first started dating! When he went on holiday for Christmas I knew he was the one because I missed him like crazy!

Re: Any over 30 brides???

I turned 31 today

We are not doing the bouquet or garter toss--just feels silly to me. I feel strange about being announced at the reception, but we are going to do right away our first dance as part of our announcement.

Let's see anything else different...I think everything has been a little bit calmer--my showers have been about hanging out and talking and my bachelorette is more of that, except for we are going to do karoake...

All the married couples get on the dance floor, and as they dance the band or DJ announces years - one year married please leave the dance floor, five years, ten years, etc. When they get down to a few couples, they usually do one year increments. I gave my bouquet to them and the hall gave us a nice bottle of wine to give to them. The winners were my aunt and uncle - 54 years married I believe.

Bouquet and Garter toss...

Maybe I was just a goofy gal, but I remember being very sensitive about still being single after 25, so I never participated in this at the few weddings I attended myself and know that the 1 or 2 single ladies at my wedding (seriously, we hardly have any single friends or family anyway) knowing them like I do, will not want to participate in this and be labeled 'the single ladies' for the same reason I didn't want to. I always hated people asking me 'why aren't you dating anyone'. Again, maybe I was too sensitive, but I do think it's a silly 'tradition'.

I love that idea! Thanks for explaining. I think I'm going to do that. It will be interesting to see who wins!

I agree! I could have been married when I was 26 but I would be divorced with 2 kids right now since he was an A$%!

Re: Any over 30 brides??? - I'm having a bad day

Question for the over 30... just wanted to know if I've completely lost my mind and need antidepressants or something...

FH's brother's wife announced that they are pregnant! Well, it was FMIL that told FH that told me. I don't know why I feel this way, but something in my stomach turns into a knot sometimes when I hear of this kind of 'blissful' news. I'm going to be 33 when I get married (if I even make it to getting married with the way I react to things) and I'm TERRIFIED that I will have problems trying to conceive. I hear so many horror stories, people trying so hard, paying so much money, and only to lose a pregnancy if they even get that far. FH thinks I'm worrying about something that isn't even justified (and he's right... I've never been pregnant, but I never really tried to be either). I hear that your fertility drops after 30 to like 50%. I also hear that if your over 30 and you've never been pregnant it will be harder for you to get pregnant over 30 and the more over 30 you are the tougher it is. Are these things even true? Any real life examples? My FH has a child from a previous marriage so sometimes I feel like 'well, he has a child - what does he care if we can't have one together'. He had such a hard day today, sick to his stomach. I too had a horrible day and this news made me go off and put me in such a bad mood. FH was appauled that I 'can't be happy for other people'. That's really not the case, the case is more that I'm so afraid that a) I will never have a child of my own and b) FH's only child will be with someone else (maybe hard for some to understand - but it hurts me - I can't help it - so maybe I'm a bad person I can't help it, the kid likes me a lot though so that must mean something somehow). I've been hysterical crying... is this a 'biological clock thing'? Am I really losing it? He and I have come so far... I don't want to make him hate me, and I know I'm being a total b**ch tonight. I just wonder - I've never even had an 'accident', granted I was careful for the most part - is anything I'm saying making sense/normal?

Re: Any over 30 brides???

Don't worry! I am 38 and getting married this SATURDAY! YEAH! We actually decided to wait until January to start trying to have children. We both felt it was better to ease into this marriage then jump right in and try to have a baby. We wanted to get used to living together and enjoying being married before my hormones start flying off the deep end.

So, I will hopefully get pregnant and have our first child (first for both of us) at age 39. If we have problems conceiving, we will face those challenges when we get there. There's nothing either one of us can do about it at this point and there is no use in worrying. It is what it is. And trust me, I want a child in the worst way. So, I hear your concerns and I share them with you. But, it doesn't help getting all stressed out. In fact, I think the stress thing hurts. How many stories have you heard about women trying to get pregnant for years and she cant. They go and adopt a kid and BOOM! she gets pregnant. I've personally seen it with two of my co-workers. Don't stress out. If it is meant to be - it will be. And if you have to help it along - you do.

Good luck! (on both the marriage and eventually the baby thing)
