Any Polish Brides out there???

ok so I'm not Polish but since my fiancee is, his family would like to incorporate wedding Polish traditions during THE DAY. I was told the blessing of the bread? and there are others too.

Can someone explain to me how this is done and when? Is this done at the ceremony or RH? His family did not know how to explain it to me I'm open to doing this

Any feedback?

Re: Any Polish Brides out there???

I need help as well! My FMIL said something about blessing of the bread at the RH and something to do with salt...not sure exactly what I am doing, but I was told that the MOB is supposed to bring the bread to the couple and then bless it or something but since my mom is not Polish, FMIL is going to do it.

I also heard about 'buying' a dance with the bride where people give money to the MOH or stick it in her apron or what not and people 'buy' a dance with the bride.

Not sure if I am explaining any of this correctly, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Any Polish Brides out there???

i'm Polish =) The blessing of the bread takes place right after the bride and groom are announced at the RH. You basically walk up to the parents and each take a bite out of the bread. (it's usually a whole loaf)

Sometimes people also have two shot glasses, one with water, one with alcohol. The bride and groom pick up a glass and drink it. After they are done they toss it behind them. The one who had the vodka is said to be in charge of the finances.

Polish people also throw money (usually coins) at the bride and groom right after the ceremony when they walk out.

That's all the traditions I know. I'm sure everyone does different things.

not polish, but I would make sure to sniff the glass and make sure I have the vodka so I can control the finances

Re: Any Polish Brides out there???

So I am Polish and we are doing the blessing with the bread and salt and pepper first thing after we get introduced. Some families also do the blessing before they go to church at their family home.
check this link
http://www.udonet.com/laura/wedding/polish.html
We dont really do all of what is on that link, maybe just first 3 (up to Sto Lat.)

The main one is the one with the blessing with the bread, if you do that I think they will be happy. That is what I am doing and I am Polish and then I will do the taking off the garter and father daughter dance and that is all. In poland weddings go on all night till like 6 AM so they have time to do everything
I hope this will help you. Good luck and let me know if you need anything.
