Any Reviews?

Any Reviews?

I wanted to know if anyone has ever purchased a gown from Gowns by Louise in the Bronx. I recently went there and they seemed very nice. One of the ladies who worked there said if I ordered the gown it would cost about 1500 and if I get the sample one on the spot it would cost about 1020. The problem was it's a size 10 and I am a 4. She said that they will alter the dress to my size at no more than $200. Is that possible to alter the dress by that much and still have it look good. She also said they do all the cleaning and it is as new as when you order it.
I am kind of doubtful and still don't know what to do. Before I left , she left it at $950 with veil and tiara. The gown by the way is from Moonlight and is silk organza. I guess I want to know if I should purchase it. Any comments?

try looking around and see what other stores are selling the same dress for to get a price comparison...sounds like the lady was trying to make a quick sale or something...Macy's did that to me when i tried on a dress...they said if i ordered it right then they'd take 10% off...glad i didn't jump at it because i bought a completely different dress for a great deal somehwhere else.

Re: Any Reviews?

Thanks for replying. Maybe I should look around a bit more. But honestly, I tried on about 25 gowns and honestly I want to make my choice already. I am getting married on October 5, 2007. This dress was my favorite and that is why I'm so confused.
And yes the dress on the Ad that was posted seems to be the dress only it had spaghetti straps.

I bought my dress from Gowns by Louise in the Bx. I really liked working with the ladies there. They also offered to alter the sample at a cheaper price and make it like knew. I didn't do it, I decided I wanted a brand new gown. I do know a girl who bought the sample from there and her gown looked awesome!

when she told you it was a size 10 was it a bridal 10 or a regular 10? I only ask b/c my salesgirl tod me that a bridal 10 is really like a 6 or something like that. I know I fit into the size 10 sample perfectly and I am a size 4, so I ordered a size 12 just in case...

Re: Any Reviews?

Well, I' m really glad to hear someone worked with the ladies from Gowns by Louise. The dress was a size 10 or 12 so they would have to alter it to a size 4. She has been in the business for 25 yrs and her shop is always busy so I feel she is not going to screw it up but then there is that doubt that I'll be the unlucky one. The price is great and is within my budget. The gown, tiara and elbow veil are included in the $950. I am going to try on a few more gowns but so far that one is my favorite one.

I'm not sure if you have access to checking out the bridal gown shops in long island, but I def recommend at least calling them. I went to Gowns by Louise and I HATED their customer service. I had an appt made and everything and they still had a 14 year old girl help pick out a few dresses and she literally threw me in the dressing room to dress myself. what the heck was that all about?! i went to the shops in LI and their service is sooo much better. alot of places have amazing prices too. if you know you want this specific dress, get the designer & style # and call around to see who can give you the best price. I'll tell you right now RK Bridal on 49th st. and Phyllis at Bridal Elegance offer insane prices that can't be beat. Don't worry about the timing, some places jack up the amount of time that you need to place the order so that you will buy it right then and there. shop around and have fun!

Re: Any Reviews?

Wow, I am surprise to hear that about Gowns by Louise because unlike your experience, I worked with a woman named Mia and she helped me pick out the dresses and stayed with me through all seven fittings. (I went on a Friday afternoon and I was the only one trying on gowns). She actually asked what my budget was and all and she picked dresses within my budget. Actually the dress I want to purchase is by Moonlight E1566. I saw it tried it on and loved it. She told me the price is $1400 if I order it and if I buy the sample its $950 with tiara and veil. I called RK Bridals and the dress is $1500. So since I am within a budget and absolutely love the dress and know it is the 'one'. I put a $100 down payment. They will alter it there and steam it which would cost me $200. I called Moonlight and asked if a dress could be alter about 3-4 sizes and she said absolutely. She also said that Louise is wonderful and she would not let any of her customers feel disappointed about their purchase. She has been there about 22yrs. Hopefully everything will work out well!

Re: Any Reviews?

i wouldnt alter a dress so much from size to size
You'll lose the true shape of the dress and pattern and such

but as i see, though you're asking us, you already put down a deposit, so you're already most likely in a contract

good luck

NO! DO NOT BUY A DRESS THAT IS THAT BIG! FHs cousin got married and bought her dress 2 sizes too big and the alterations did nothing! The dress looked HORRIBLE once they took it in, it had lost its shape and everything!

Re: Any Reviews?

That is a good price for all three, just make sure if you but it, it says something in the contract about being like new. I have heard a seamstress say something about not being able to take it in more than 2 sizes and others say 6. Sometimes a deal is too good to be true, I would go to one or two more stores, if you still feel yourself being drawn back there then get it.

Re: Any Reviews?

Well, thanks for the advice. Really, really appreciate it. Although I made a $100 deposit she says if I have any regrets they could order it just as long as I don't have my 1st fitting. Maybe I'll go back and see if they'll give me a better deal with the ordered dress.
