Check out Rugs Direct. I got a rug from them recently which I love, and they have some that are very inexpensive.

I just bought a custom area rug at Home Expo. It came out to be $850 for a 8.5 by 13.

If you are in Queens... there is a place on 48st and Northern that wasn't too bad. I bought my flooring from them... but they also do tons of carpet.

There is also a carpeting place on Grand Avenue at around 74st or so (right next to LaCue pool hall). My parents just got carpeting from them.

I did some shopping around this summer when I re-carpeted three rooms. The best prices I found were at a place called Gene's Carpet. It is on Middle Country Road a little east of the Smith Haven Mall. The best part is, they stock standard colors in huge rolls, so there is little wait if you want them. We ordered 15 foot wide, so we waited 2 weeks. Service and prices were good -- I would recommend.

we got one at bj's and one at costco....less than a hundred i think, and they are great....

for wall to wall carpet, we used a place out in pt jeff - PT JEFF CUSTOM CARPET and they were great - we even woudn up gettting some of the remnants bound for a chair mat and for by the deck door!

thanks everyone for the suggestions.. we mostly looked in Queens.... we looked at a ton of places today including carpet world and finally made a decision at another place nearby in Queens...

Do you believe Home Depot wanted an extra 100 dollars to deliver it to the 5th floor? What a rip.
