If so did you get your job back. Did you go back to the same district? How did it work. Im worried about that and I dont want to wait.

I got pregnant in my 6th year of teaching at my school. I teach in a catholic school so they have no idea of what tenure is. I had to sign my letter of intent, which states if I'm coming back next year or not and what grade I would like to be considered for, if there's a switch.
I wrote that I'm not coming back and that I will not be signing the contract in April (which states that you will be here next year). I do not want to go back to my school because of the money. I love the children there and the other teachers, but I need to go where the $$$ is. Public school pays the best so goodbye to catholic school...

Stefanie - good move :) When the time comes if you need help finding openings just ask on here. I have met SO many teachers already. Also get the NYTimes job alert to email you when your field is posted in the paper! Having a baby is so exciting isnt it!!!!!

YES!! I can't wait for him to arrive in June...it can't come soon enough!
Thanks for the advice. I don't care if I have to start all over again by becoming a permanent sub. It's getting your foot in the door here on LI that is difficult.

June is PERFECT for a baby :) I had my son mid August and I was hot and sweaty on bed rest all summer :( That was horrible!!!
Yes, getting your foot in the door is tough if you dont know anyone. I started as a long term music sub!

my girlfriend had a baby after her first year teaching... she didn't take a leave though because she didnt want to jeopordize her position... she had the baby during the summer...

I am currently doing a leave replacement for a woman who left to have her daughter in April 2004, and she just came into the building before the break to say she is taking another school year. So techncially she wont be back until September 2006.
